Most people have no idea how amazing and magnificent bees are, or how important bees are to our survival on this planet. Most of us lack the knowledge and guidance about how to coexist with bees, and the simple things we can all do to share our environment safely with these darling little creatures. Bee Mission focuses on outreach and education by investing in powerful and informative content, paid traffic which spreads awareness and converts new Bee Missionaries every day, and supporting front line organizations through outreach and by providing financial support to those that actively affect global bee populations in a meaningful way. They are completely self-funded. Your support, whether by sharing an informative blog post or through a purchase, allows them to continue doing what they do. Bee Mission learns something new about bees daily, and want to share with the world how brilliant, intelligent and amazing bees truly are. A lot of people know bees are pollinators, but few people know their quirks, sophisticated social structures, or how gifted they are in mathematical and geometric calculations. Bees face real threats all over the world, many of which are not fully understood or explained. This lack of understanding slows progress and solutions. The more people relate to and understand bees, the more important the bee-cause becomes. They believe they can support these amazing creatures by raising awareness and helping endear them more to the masses. Food shortages have long been predicted if we continue to lose colonies of our hardworking little pollinator friends. Bee Mission is 100% self-funded, and they do not accept donations. Bee Mission has been built around a philosophy of serving bees through the creation of engaging information, building a following of fellow Bee Missionaries, and supporting frontline organizations they see as making a difference. All of their content is created in-house, through thorough research, and deployed free of cost through their blog, with materials published on and available for free on Apple Books and Amazon (except where Amazon requires a minimum price), social media, and through their email list. In 2019 Bee Mission reached over 61,000,000 people. Through your support, they have raised awareness about how special and brilliant bees are, and they would like to have an even greater impact in the future. The hive thrives because bees work together. When you make a purchase from their store, or write in to them with amazing bee stories, or even simply share their content, we are all working together to positively impact global bee populations. They have a lot of goals to bring to fruition, these include partnering with select organizations with whom they can create unique products that directly benefit the organization on a per-sale basis, as well as giving these organizations a voice to speak directly with their 145,000+ followers. They are developing free resources specifically for kids. The younger generation needs to understand bees, understand that they are not to be feared, and they are creating more free content that should engage the younger generations, leaving them with fun experiences and a new-found appreciation for bees. At Bee Mission, one of the biggest parts of their mission is to provide valuable educational information to the general public in an effort to help raise awareness for these incredible creatures & their importance to this planet.

The Elephants and Bees Project is an innovative study by Save the Elephants using an in-depth understanding of elephant behaviour to reduce damage from crop-raiding elephants using their instinctive avoidance of African honey bees. The project explores the use of novel Beehive Fences as a natural elephant deterrent, creating a social and economic boost to poverty-stricken rural communities through the sustainable harvesting of “Elephant-Friendly Honey”. The Save the Elephant's charity was founded in 1993 by Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, CBE, Chief Executive Officer, who made a pioneering study of elephant behaviour in the late ’60s in Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania, and has worked on elephant status Africa-wide since. Explorers, conservationists and elephant scientists serve as fellow trustees or advisors to the board. Save the Elephants focuses on research, education, grass-roots conservation, monitoring and protection, and are involved in projects across Africa in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, South Africa and Mali. Research projects range from investigations into the dynamics of elephant society at a molecular level to ranging behaviour of savannah, forest and desert elephants using high-tech Global Positioning System collars. They are at the forefront of developing technology to track and interpret elephant movements, providing vital information for land-use management plans aimed at reducing conflict with humans whilst allowing elephants continued access to vital parts of their range. We are involved in surveys to measure population trends, elephant mortality and ivory trade, providing systematic and factual information used by CITES (Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species) to ascertain the conservation status of the African elephant They recognise the need to find solutions to reconcile elephants with the people with whom they share their land. The Elephants and Bees Project is core to their mission to investigate innovative and cost-effective methods to reduce conflict, as well as exploring the cultural relationships between people and elephants.

BGO (the Bee Girl Organization) is a grassroots non-profit, centred on bee habitat conservation through research, regeneration, & education. They envision a future where kids frolic in pastures of flowers, buzzing with bees, alongside profitable family farmers and ranchers. Through their research projects and education programs they are regenerating soil, bees, and communities. Organization founder, Sarah “Bee Girl” Red-Laird, leads a team to show kids, bee-keepers, and farmers how to love their bees through classes, events, summer camps, and habitat projects. The team engages with communities across the nation, and the globe, spreading knowledge and bringing a sense of wonder from the hive to the people. Sarah Red-Laird is a graduate of the University of Montana's College of Forestry and Conservation and the Davidson Honours College with a degree in Resource Conservation, focused on community collaboration and environmental policy. Sarah also serves as the “Kids and Bees” program director for the American Bee-keeping Federation. To see her commitment to good policy and community collaborations realized, she also has served as president of the Northwest Farmer's Union and Western Apicultural Society, and as a board member of the National Farmers Union. At the 2015 Northwest Farmers Union Conference, Sarah became inspired to work with farming and ranching friends to find the best possible "win-win-win" solutions for farmers and ranchers, and bees and bee-keepers. This journey led to regenerative agriculture, and the understanding that rebuilding soil is the first step to healthy bees, livestock, and people. The “Regenerative Bee Pasture” project is a multifaceted initiative comprised of research, technical discovery, and community education. They are working hard to develop a low maintenance and inexpensive flower-rich "regenerative bee pasture" for ranchers to both substitute for chemical fallow, and to interplant in pasture for an environmentally and economically improved area for farmers and ranchers to harvest or graze. They also hope to provide a strong nectar flow to feed bees and provide a honey crop for bee-keepers. The Bee Girl organization manages and tests two pasture test plots, and one working pasture, with the guidance and partnership of their collaborators at Diamond Bar Beef, Eastern Washington University, Washington State University, Oregon State University (honey bee lab, and local extension), and the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District. They analyse bee, soil, pollen, and plant material chemistry, biology, and microbiology. They aim to develop a hardy pasture mix and land management system that can rebuild soil, restore water cycles, sequester carbon, provide high levels of protein for livestock, and also abundant nectar and nutrient-rich pollen for bees. As part of this project, they are experimenting with innovative farming and ranching equipment and methods to improve soil such as rotational and adaptive grazing, no-till seed drilling, and roller crimping. After the research and development phase, they plan to create and implement educational programming for site prep, planting, irrigation, and harvest or grazing, to maximize benefits for bees, bee-keepers, and farmers and ranchers. With the Regenerative Bee Pasture project, they are exploring ways to increase community resiliency through diversity on multiple levels - microbial diversity (bee gut, soil, and pollen), bee species diversity, ecological landscape diversity, food system decentralization, and perhaps most importantly, exploring the human connection to our own minds to increase inner-resilience for the greater good of all. The “Bee Friendly Vineyards” pilot program began in April of 2019. With the help of their squad of volunteers, they launched their program by planting 1,800-square-feet of Siskiyou Seeds sunflowers on a plot of previously unused land at a local vineyard. Their sunflower plot attracted bees, provided vital habitat to pollinators and other beneficial insects, and stabilized and built soil. Recent studies have indicated that sunflowers increase bees’ resistance to pathogens and parasites. Bees provide one out of every three bites of food that we eat. No bees, no food, no us. It's also a commonly known fact that our bees are in trouble. Annual losses of honey bee colonies are in the tens of thousands. Solitary and bumble bees at are being lost at unsustainable rates. It will be up to the next generation to not only understand their importance, but to take action in their conservation. Their “Kids and Bees” program teaches kids, in a positive and engaging way, why bees are essential to everyday life and how the kids can be honey bee heroes. The mission of the Kids and Bees program is to educate the next generation on the importance of bees and to inspire them to take part in their preservation and conservation.

AI and bees BeeHero has developed a monitoring system to help maintain bee colony health; another start-up, BEEsharing, runs a pollination service, matching up bee-keepers and farmers. Such innovative ventures are needed in the face of mass bee death worldwide. Generations Of Bee-keeping and Innovation at Work BeeHero was founded by a team of veteran bee-keepers, serial entrepreneurs, renowned biologists, and data scientists to ensure that everyone wins: farmers, bee-keepers, and nature. 70% of crops worldwide rely on bees, whose increasing mortality rate, coupled with colony collapse disorder, puts financial strain on farmers and bee-keepers. This makes it harder to feed an exponentially growing global population. They built their cutting-edge platform and low-cost sensors to provide frictionless setup and operation for bee-keepers and achieving their goal: increasing crop yield and quality while enhancing pollinator health. BeeHero maximizes crop yields through precision pollination, combining sophisticated machine learning algorithms with low-cost sensors to stimulate maximum output potential during peak pollination cycles. Headquartered in California with research and development in Israel, their team of commercial bee-keepers and food growers, engineers and entrepreneurs, and industry-renowned scientists work around the globe and around the clock to maximize every pollination cycle.

My name is Nazario, I am a beekeeper, I live in central Italy a small and beautiful region called Molise. I have a laboratory in Montagano in the province of Campobasso and I have beehives based in different hilly and mountainous parts of the Molise area, between April and August I move the beehives to different blooms to create pure, excellent quality single and assorted mixed flowered honey. Through working with and learning from bees, beekeeping for me has developed into an integrated and sustainable role model. Honey produced by bees through their organisation and work is as a result of their complex and articulated relationships with their environment. Making a demanding choice, going further than having an organic honey seal of approval, I personally felt the need to create a “circular economy”. Initiating a circular economy where control over honey and other bee products belong to the producer and the consumer. I would like to take those who consume my honey on a journey to the fields where I take the bees showing them how the honey is produced and subsequently, how it is extracted in the laboratory. Behind each bee there is a pollinated flower, there is a beekeeper who uses all the techniques for preserving the environment whilst protecting the well-being of bees and safeguarding the (Ligustica ) Italian honey bee. My work is an emotional story, of nature, work, obligation and love for these little but most important insects. Bees represent one of the most significant aspects for a healthy biodiversity. My bees do not only produce honey, they produce an emotion, if we can still become emotional about a spoonful of natural honey. Buy my honey Support the dedication of a small passionate beekeeper and his bees who in turn protect the environment and biodiversity. Although there is a honey seal of approval, my company has made an even more Important and demanding choice, by creating a beehive company of a circular economy. Creating a productive and sustainable process that is respectful of the environment, of biodiversity and of bees along the whole production line, treasuring the breeding of beekeeping.

The four main initiatives of IBCP are: Research - This aspect of IBCP continues from the initial research described above and is focussed on the Varroa mite parasite, which is the greatest threat to Ireland’s native honeybee. This study and breeding programme will be entering it’s 5th year at our dedicated research apiaries and laboratory during 2020. Results have been encouraging, where selected colonies are now showing tolerance of the Varroa mite through the expression of natural traits contained within the bee’s genome. Habitat Support - One of the main reasons for the diminishing numbers of certain species of Irish bees have been the reduction in foraging and nesting sites throughout the country. During 2019 the IBCP began a programme to combat this effect and established 20 specially designed “Bee Lodges” to provide shelter and breeding facilities for all species of Irish bees. These lodges were erected in large trees in Fota Wildlife Park and on farms in county Waterford. Wild bees are currently occupying these shelters and will propagate over winter and next year to increase the relevant populations. The target for 2020 is to establish a further 80 lodges in other locations throughout these counties. The Research project will feed directly into Habitat Support, as native honeybees with increased Varroa tolerance will have greater survival rates in the wild when introduced to the “Bee Lodges”. Biodiversity - Along with the reduction of wild nesting locations across the country, the reduction in foraging sites has led to a significant loss of species and range for some Irish bees. The Great Yellow Bumblebee is an example of this, where 60 years ago this species was prevalent throughout the country, but today it is endangered and found only in certain western counties. The IBCP through an education and networking programme are working to increase floral rich areas which are desirable to our native bee species. This initiative is focussed on creating multiple small areas of floral development in private and public areas and links directly into the Habitat Support initiative. This programme involves liaising with government bodies, businesses, farm groups, community groups, schools, hospitals, universities, eco groups etc. Education - IBCP have established a link with the Royal Microscopical Society to secure the use of teaching microscope kits which can be brought to schools to introduce students, (both junior and secondary) into microscopy, insect biology and specific aspects of insect biology associated with the life and survival of native Irish bees. These programmes will be carried out by IBCP in association with the teachers, who will develop curriculum-based projects such as foraging areas to attract bees and demonstrate how bee pollinators can manipulate and carry the pollen which is necessary for the continued survival of the bees. This initiative will enable the students to visualise the links between the bees they see every day and biology involved in the ongoing survival of these bee species. The added advantage to this education initiative is that the students will encourage their families and friends to support the Biodiversity requirements of our native bee species. In summary, the IBCP is working for the survival, protection and proliferation of Ireland’s native bee species. The four elements of our approach are highly integrated and through our growing network of members we plan to expand our initiatives from Cork and Waterford throughout the country over the coming years.

I worked for Tekkie Town as a Sales Assistant and I was chosen as the best Sales person for the entire Mpumalanga province. I also worked for the Department of agriculture as a Data capture. I have a passion for sports, football is one of my favourites and one day I wish I can own a soccer team. While I was in high school, I always wanted to be a lawyer but due to financial constraints I could not become one. My interest in the justice system came when I realised that the late former president Mr Nelson Mandela was also a lawyer representing his people. I wish one day I could give back to my community and its people because my community gave us the likes of the late Steve Bantu Biko, one of the BCM Members who fought for the people of South Africa. My community is one of the underdeveloped communities of this country, but I know that one day all of this will change because I know that with education anything is possible. When a child is educated communities will change for the better and if one community changes, then our country will change for the better as well and poverty will be no more. Education topped with one’s perseverance is the key to a bright future for all. With this pandemic people have lost their jobs and in some households you find that no one is working and people resort to drugs and alcohol, some get depressed to a point of taking their own lives. If we can start developing jobs for people, our continent would become a better place for us all. Being part of an initiative that supports the empowerment of those less privileged is one of my greatest wishes. I will be glad if all my wishes do come through because nothing is as important as education and hard work, and an educated country means a better world for us all.

My name is Glorymar Hernandez, but I prefer to be called “Glory”. I was born in the capital of Venezuela, Caracas, and grew up amid the crowds of the city, the tranquility of the Andean mountains and the joy of the Caribbean coast. A mixture that has taught me to enjoy wherever I am, that aroused my curiosity to know the world, and that has helped me to adapt, with relative ease, to changes. I have a degree in Philosophy, my research works are in Philosophy of Language. Since 2019 I have been working as a Spanish teacher. I decided to start teaching my mother tongue thanks to my experience learning other languages. I had the opportunity to live for a year in Ireland, where I went to learn English and, currently, I am in Italy, where I have had the opportunity to learn Italian. These experiences allowed me to realize that, although seeking perfection when trying to “speak like a native” is the ideal, what really matters is being able to communicate, make ourselves understood and be open to the experience of knowing other cultures and understand that there are many different points of view. Professionally, I have had the opportunity to work in different contexts such as banking, outsourcing consular procedures, and teaching at university level. The biggest lesson I learned from these experiences is that I am not an office person. I prefer to own my time and have the freedom to work wherever I am. For this reason, I have decided to dedicate myself to teaching Spanish online and to enter the digital world. I consider myself a very curious and versatile person, that is why in my free time I enjoy handcrafting (such as sewing or knitting), volunteering, being in contact with nature, and trying to learn new things, like playing the guitar. Regarding my geographical preferences, the beach and the mountains are my main refuges, because I can escape from the noise of the city and connect with myself. That is why I would like to be able to live with my husband on a mountain, not far from the sea.

I’m Toni-Leigh, born and bred in the Mother City of Cape Town. My fiancé and I, are parents to a lively 2-year old girl who arrived 5 years after losing our 3-year old son to a rare genetic disease. I love learning new things. Growing up, I was a voracious reader, reading anything and everything (even the classifieds and property ads) and with the advancement of technology over the years, I can have information at the tip of my fingers, so I’m always eager to learn new things and I’m a fast learner. I’ve always had an interest in Information Technology and was the go-to person in my office before my colleagues would go to the IT office, and now I’m looking into further studies so that I can develop my knowledge and skills. In 2005 I graduated from Varsity College with a Diploma in Travel and Tourism with aspirations of travelling worldwide in my profession. Things didn’t quite work out that way, having worked in retail and a company assisting young people to live and work in the UK. In the last decade or so, I’ve been in the tourism industry behind the scenes, working for an online holiday accommodation booking agency and more recently a company that does tours and safaris in Southern Africa. I also do freelance work remotely, such as, captioning for a speech-to-text service and social media evaluation. I am an introvert but enjoy working with and being in the company of others, while also enjoying being on my own. In the past I used to view being an introvert as a weakness because those higher up in the ranks of the companies I worked for were extroverted but in recent times I realised how much of a strength it is being an introvert as I also have a strong sense of empathy, which I believe is key in Customer Service and building interpersonal relationships with colleagues and clients. I’m passionate about customer service and going the extra mile and l love that feeling of knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s day whether big or small. People tend to describe me as hardworking, punctual, efficient, dependable and trustworthy. Covid-19 affected the tourism industry drastically, however, I still want to travel anywhere I can, just soaking up the different cultures and experiences. The last year has been both challenging and rewarding and it has made me see things in a different light and so it has been somewhat of a new beginning for me. I am motivated now more than ever to seek out new passions and adventures and to get out of my comfort zone.
