Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, I am a 22 year old who could be described as ambitious, hardworking, and a perfectionist. I enjoy being challenged with new tasks, as I believe discomfort allows one to grow and learn. I enjoy teamwork, but I am also capable of working on my own. I believe that communication is an important aspect of any relationship, especially professional ones, as it doesn’t leave any room for errors or misunderstandings. Therefore, I pride myself on being a skilled communicator. I am organised, goal-driven, and I find it very hard to set a task down once I have started. I may not have the most extroverted personality, but I do enjoy socialising with others in any setting. I recently graduated with a BA in English and Communication Science. While completing my degree, I worked as an editorial intern at Highbury Media, where I gained first hand experience in editing, publishing, and social media management. I was also able to sharpen my writing skills, which came in handy as I went on to work as a freelance writer for ClubX Magazine for over a year. Even though I do not have years of experience behind me, I am, however, eager to learn. And a fresh mind is always a benefit. When it comes to my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and painting. I am also currently learning Italian and intend on tackling many other foreign languages.

I am a God fearing individual, and I’m also a father to two beautiful kids, a boy and a girl. I worked for Tekkie Town as a Sales Assistant and I was chosen as the best Sales person for the entire Mpumalanga province. I also worked for the Department of agriculture as a Data capture. I have a passion for sports, football is one of my favourites and one day I wish I can own a soccer team. While I was in high school, I always wanted to be a lawyer but due to financial constraints I could not become one. My interest in the justice system came when I realised that the late former president Mr Nelson Mandela was also a lawyer representing his people. I wish one day I could give back to my community and its people because my community gave us the likes of the late Steve Bantu Biko, one of the BCM Members who fought for the people of South Africa. My community is one of the underdeveloped communities of this country, but I know that one day all of this will change because I know that with education anything is possible. When a child is educated communities will change for the better and if one community changes, then our country will change for the better as well and poverty will be no more. Education topped with one’s perseverance is the key to a bright future for all. With this pandemic people have lost their jobs and in some households you find that no one is working and people resort to drugs and alcohol, some get depressed to a point of taking their own lives. If we can start developing jobs for people, our continent would become a better place for us all. Being part of an initiative that supports the empowerment of those less privileged is one of my greatest wishes. I will be glad if all my wishes do come through because nothing is as important as education and hard work, and an educated country means a better world for us all.

My name is Nazario, I am a beekeeper, I live in central Italy a small and beautiful region called Molise. I have a laboratory in Montagano in the province of Campobasso and I have beehives based in different hilly and mountainous parts of the Molise area, between April and August I move the beehives to different blooms to create pure, excellent quality single and assorted mixed flowered honey. Through working with and learning from bees, beekeeping for me has developed into an integrated and sustainable role model. Honey produced by bees through their organisation and work is as a result of their complex and articulated relationships with their environment. Making a demanding choice, going further than having an organic honey seal of approval, I personally felt the need to create a “circular economy”. Initiating a circular economy where control over honey and other bee products belong to the producer and the consumer. I would like to take those who consume my honey on a journey to the fields where I take the bees showing them how the honey is produced and subsequently, how it is extracted in the laboratory. Behind each bee there is a pollinated flower, there is a beekeeper who uses all the techniques for preserving the environment whilst protecting the well-being of bees and safeguarding the (Ligustica ) Italian honey bee. My work is an emotional story, of nature, work, obligation and love for these little but most important insects. Bees represent one of the most significant aspects for a healthy biodiversity. My bees do not only produce honey, they produce an emotion, if we can still become emotional about a spoonful of natural honey. Buy my honey Support the dedication of a small passionate beekeeper and his bees who in turn protect the environment and biodiversity. Although there is a honey seal of approval, my company has made an even more Important and demanding choice, by creating a beehive company of a circular economy. Creating a productive and sustainable process that is respectful of the environment, of biodiversity and of bees along the whole production line, treasuring the breeding of beekeeping.

Backyard Beekeeping 101: The #1 Source For Apiculture Enthusiasts. The bees are back! Well, maybe not yet, but we can hope, can’t we? For years now the message has been constant, the bees need our help. The only problem is sometimes we can do more harm than good when we act without the right information. A lot of new beekeepers are doing exactly that. So how can aspiring beekeepers make sure that they are helping their bees? Arriving at Backyardbeekeeping101.com is a great first step. Annie, lifelong nature lover, beekeeper, and educator. Her goal for this site is to provide you with easy to read condensed information about bees and beekeeping. The two are separate entities because the bees can exist without beekeepers. Annie doesn’t just want to give you a how-to manual on apiculture. Instead, she wants you to draw on the years of experience that I have as a professional beekeeper and help you understand why you do what you do. Why is that important? Well, failure to understand why, may have caused the predicament that bees are going through right now. Had we taken the time to observe the diverse needs of the bees, perhaps the state of California wouldn’t need to import bees from other states when the almond trees are in bloom. Had we taken the time to understand the cycle of the varroa mite, perhaps we wouldn’t have created these pesticide resistant vectors. Couldn’t we have taken a little more time understanding the effect pesticides have on friendly insects? CCD wouldn’t automatically conjure up images of dead colonies. Instead, it would still stand for Census County Division or any one of over 100 different meanings of that same acronym. That said, it’s not all doom and gloom guys. Beekeeping isn’t just a feel-good activity. The products from the hive are extremely beneficial, some even help to pay the bills. It’s also known to be a great stress reliever because it helps you commune with nature. There’s so much for the beginner and a few nuggets for the experienced as well. Annie's goal is to answer your questions and keep you updated when new questions arise. I do have to warn you, bees can create an obsession in you. It’s almost an addiction once you get started. Everything you look at falls under two categories: Bee friendly or bee enemy. I think it’s a very healthy addiction and I hope it spreads. This isn’t just for beekeepers, it’s for bee enthusiasts. The world needs more bee friends than it does beekeepers. Bees exist in the wild and we have the same responsibility to them as we do to our whales and polar ice-caps. Every little bit helps. Bees have so many secrets that studying them is like reading a murder mystery. Even when disaster strikes, you’re transfixed and can’t help but turn the page and learn more.

Bee Better Certified™ works to give bees a healthy place to live. Bee Better Certified™ partners with farmers and food companies to conserve bees and other pollinators in agricultural lands. Our work advances more resilient pollinator populations and sustainable crop production. The Bee Better Certified seal identifies and celebrates farmers and businesses that adopt farm management practices that support pollinators, and gives consumers confidence that their purchasing decisions benefit pollinators and the farmers working to protect them. The Xerces Society and Oregon Tilth joined forces to create and implement the Bee Better certification program. The Xerces Society provided the technical expertise and scientific foundation necessary to identify key factors that farmers can alter to benefit pollinators. With over 40 years of certification experience consulted on the development and implementation of the Bee Better Certified Standards, which allow farmers to get certified with ease. Without bees we wouldn’t have the abundance of apples, pumpkins, strawberries, blueberries, or almonds that we enjoy. Of the foods and beverages that we consume daily, over 30% rely on or benefit from a pollinator.1 Pollinators even help milk production: the alfalfa and clover cows graze is replenished by seed pollinated by bees. Pollinator populations rebound when they are provided with habitat13–16 and protected from other threats. To promote pollinators on farms, The Xerces Society developed a comprehensive set of Production Standards guided by the most recent science and rooted in over a decade of on-farm trials. Bee Better Certified farmers create flower-rich habitat, provide nesting locations, and create a safer environment for pollinators by protecting them from pesticide exposure and the spread of disease from commercially managed bumble bees. By buying Bee Better Certified products, you can help transform our farmland into a landscape that nourishes pollinator populations, providing vibrant habitats that help pollinators thrive while making agriculture more resilient.

The Magazine of American Beekeeping, is designed for Beginning, Sideline and Commercial Beekeepers who want the latest information on keeping bees. A small division of Root Candles, Bee Culture Magazine has been published by this company for nearly 140 years as a part of the now retired beekeeping supply business the company was once in. Now, they manufacture candles... and publish our magazine. Editor of Bee Culture magazine, Jerry Hayes, started out in life as a High School teacher. He hated it. He went into another business where he worked with a beekeeper. Back many years ago, Jerry knew about Honey Bees, but nobody actually knew a ‘Beekeeper’, did they? Jerry asked him questions, picked his brain, became more interested and fascinated and started reading everything he could get his hands on about Honey Bees. He turned into the consummate backyard beekeeper. He did all the fun and crazy things backyard beekeepers do and built and experimented with. He wondered if he could get into the Beekeeping world and support a young family. So, with the support of his family, he went back to school under the tutelage of Dr. Jim Tew, at The Ohio State University. “Top 10 Best thing I ever did,” Jerry said. Years later he looks back on his opportunities as a Research Technician at the USDA/ARS Baton Rouge Bee Lab, Dadant and Sons Regional Mgr., Dadant And Sons New Product Dev., and AR Mgr., Chief of the Apiary Section for the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Monsanto Honey Bee Lead, VP. of Vita Bee health North America and now Editor of Bee Culture magazine with awe and amazement. Add to the above the Classroom Q&A Column of the American Bee Journal for almost 40 years, the ‘Classroom’ Book, Author or Co-Author on 23 research papers and a variety of Honey Bee related articles in a variety of publications. Plus, Past President of Apiary Inspectors of America, Heartland Apiculture Assoc., Colony Collapse Working Group, CAPS Science Advisor, PAm Science Advisor, AHPA Science Advisor and many Professional Presentations internationally and media opportunities. Jen Manis comes from a well-rounded background in the retail industry, having served many roles from customer service lead, to visual merchandising, to marketing. She earned her BA in psychology from Kent State University, and an AAS in graphic arts and photography from Stark State College. Her diverse background and interests make her well prepared for her many different roles she plays at Bee Culture Magazine, including customer service and advertising.

The Bee Health Collective is a collaboration of stakeholder organizations to gather and share current, credible information about honey bee health. Founded by Project Apis m. and the National Honey Board in 2019, the Bee Health Collective is a repository of information about bee health in the USA. The mission of this project is to gather and provide a ‘one-stop shop’ resource of accessible, credible information about honey bee health, honey bee research, the bee-keeping industry, and how these relate to important things like agriculture, resource management and food. Humans rely on honey bees for the production of many crops. Along with providing important pollination services, honey bees produce about 150 million pounds of honey in the USA each year along with other hive products like beeswax, propolis, royal jelly and pollen. Humans have been keeping bees for thousands of years. Over time, methods have evolved and even today beekeeping practices differ around the world. In the United States, it is important to understand that most beekeepers are backyard beekeepers, each having only a few colonies for personal use. Most colonies in the U.S. belong to a much smaller number of commercial beekeepers. Unfortunately, all bees are facing serious health threats. This is driving high annual honey bee colony losses, making it increasingly difficult for beekeepers to provide pollination for crops and run sustainable businesses. In 2006, Colony Collapse Disorder devastated many beekeepers and honey bee colonies across the US. Colony Collapse Disorder is a syndrome characterized by some very specific symptoms: the majority of worker bees in a hive disappear and leave behind a laying queen, plenty of food and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees and the queen. It's as if a booming metropolis suddenly emptied its working population. As a result, the hive dies. Scientists still don’t know for sure what causes Colony Collapse Disorder, and it is infrequently seen today. Even though CCD is not at the forefront of honey bee health concerns today, we continue to see high annual losses related to this. There are many organizations dedicated to helping honey bees and pollinators. From research to habitat to education and policy - however you want to help, there is an organization that can utilize your donation. Project Apis m. is a founder of the Bee Health Collective and supports honey bee research and habitat projects.

Peter Kočalka is a professional bee-keeper. However, he is not just an ordinary commercial bee-keeper, he is interested in organic bee-keeping and always aims to understand their behaviour. Not only do thousands of people already support his approach, but he has developed procedures for bee care and monitoring, which not only helps beekeepers, but also serves to collect scientific data. Bee Hive Weight Monitoring are beekeepers with a large Apiary in Slovak Republic. They are professional beekeepers not just commercial beekeepers. They are interested in organic bee-keeping, and they always seek to understand Bee behaviour. Bees have existed on our planet for over 150 million years. Human intervention into the ecosystem has caused the European honey bees to no longer be able to survive on their own. They have become endangered species. They would go extinct without the care of beekeepers and that, would have a catastrophic impact on the entire ecosystem. Bee Hive Weight Managements vision is to create a system of ecological bee-keeping without the use of any chemicals. In a way which would be sustainable. Currently, they look after hundreds of honey bee colonies. Each one is being monitored with their latest technology. The technology they use is specifically designed to help the beekeepers. The bee-keeper gains a complete overview of the health and productivity of his hives. Thanks to this technology, interventions, which would be unnecessary, aren’t needed. It is 100% biological, 100% residue-free, harmless for the bees, easy to use, usable all year around even during honey flow and gives you maximum benefits. The technology is designed to be affordable for anyone. No setup, no configuration needed. In 2016, they launched some simple and environmentally friendly methods of bee care. Their project is supported by tens of thousands of people who are helping thousands of bee colonies. It doesn't matter what climate you have the bees in, or how good the year is, or what your hives and equipment are. It doesn't even matter what line of bees you have. Before you give up and start arguing that it's meant to be, that it’s the fault of the climate change, try one more experiment, to convince yourself about the opposite. There is always HOPE. A lot of honeybee colonies are lost because bee-keeper's have limited information. They have an Apiary with 300 colonies of bees and when they started monitoring it changed everything. What they want is to provide this system to all beekeepers as cheap as possible. To do that, they need mass production to lower costs. Bee Hive Weight Management provides a simple and proven solution for bee-keepers to eliminate even the most serious problems with their bees! [/box]

Most people have no idea how amazing and magnificent bees are, or how important bees are to our survival on this planet. Most of us lack the knowledge and guidance about how to coexist with bees, and the simple things we can all do to share our environment safely with these darling little creatures. Bee Mission focuses on outreach and education by investing in powerful and informative content, paid traffic which spreads awareness and converts new Bee Missionaries every day, and supporting front line organizations through outreach and by providing financial support to those that actively affect global bee populations in a meaningful way. They are completely self-funded. Your support, whether by sharing an informative blog post or through a purchase, allows them to continue doing what they do. Bee Mission learns something new about bees daily, and want to share with the world how brilliant, intelligent and amazing bees truly are. A lot of people know bees are pollinators, but few people know their quirks, sophisticated social structures, or how gifted they are in mathematical and geometric calculations. Bees face real threats all over the world, many of which are not fully understood or explained. This lack of understanding slows progress and solutions. The more people relate to and understand bees, the more important the bee-cause becomes. They believe they can support these amazing creatures by raising awareness and helping endear them more to the masses. Food shortages have long been predicted if we continue to lose colonies of our hardworking little pollinator friends. Bee Mission is 100% self-funded, and they do not accept donations. Bee Mission has been built around a philosophy of serving bees through the creation of engaging information, building a following of fellow Bee Missionaries, and supporting frontline organizations they see as making a difference. All of their content is created in-house, through thorough research, and deployed free of cost through their blog, with materials published on and available for free on Apple Books and Amazon (except where Amazon requires a minimum price), social media, and through their email list. In 2019 Bee Mission reached over 61,000,000 people. Through your support, they have raised awareness about how special and brilliant bees are, and they would like to have an even greater impact in the future. The hive thrives because bees work together. When you make a purchase from their store, or write in to them with amazing bee stories, or even simply share their content, we are all working together to positively impact global bee populations. They have a lot of goals to bring to fruition, these include partnering with select organizations with whom they can create unique products that directly benefit the organization on a per-sale basis, as well as giving these organizations a voice to speak directly with their 145,000+ followers. They are developing free resources specifically for kids. The younger generation needs to understand bees, understand that they are not to be feared, and they are creating more free content that should engage the younger generations, leaving them with fun experiences and a new-found appreciation for bees. At Bee Mission, one of the biggest parts of their mission is to provide valuable educational information to the general public in an effort to help raise awareness for these incredible creatures & their importance to this planet.

AI and bees BeeHero has developed a monitoring system to help maintain bee colony health; another start-up, BEEsharing, runs a pollination service, matching up bee-keepers and farmers. Such innovative ventures are needed in the face of mass bee death worldwide. Generations Of Bee-keeping and Innovation at Work BeeHero was founded by a team of veteran bee-keepers, serial entrepreneurs, renowned biologists, and data scientists to ensure that everyone wins: farmers, bee-keepers, and nature. 70% of crops worldwide rely on bees, whose increasing mortality rate, coupled with colony collapse disorder, puts financial strain on farmers and bee-keepers. This makes it harder to feed an exponentially growing global population. They built their cutting-edge platform and low-cost sensors to provide frictionless setup and operation for bee-keepers and achieving their goal: increasing crop yield and quality while enhancing pollinator health. BeeHero maximizes crop yields through precision pollination, combining sophisticated machine learning algorithms with low-cost sensors to stimulate maximum output potential during peak pollination cycles. Headquartered in California with research and development in Israel, their team of commercial bee-keepers and food growers, engineers and entrepreneurs, and industry-renowned scientists work around the globe and around the clock to maximize every pollination cycle.

All their work is based on the understanding of the inter-linked and sustaining relationship between bees and flowering plants. Plants provide bees with a bountiful supply of free nectar in exchange for the pollination services that ultimately underpin the production of fruits, nuts and oilseeds on which humans and wildlife depend for food. When they started work in 1993, bee-keeping was considered a marginal activity, and they struggled to get our point across. They knew the importance of bees in helping to make marginal livelihoods more resilient and successful. Yet not everyone shared their vision! All of their work is aimed at promoting bee-keeping to change people’s lives for the better while supporting ecosystem integrity. Beekeeping is not just one of their areas of expertise – it is what they all do, all day, every day. Most of them are beekeepers, they talk to beekeepers, they implement bee-keeping projects; they read the research, follow global developments and question, puzzle and think about what really works, for whom and why. A unique feature of Bees for Development is the way they stick to the principles of natural bee-keeping. They recognise that for poor people, nature is wealth. In bee-keeping this means using the natural behaviour and immune responses of bees to keep them healthy. Above all, they recognise that beekeepers in difficult environments need to be empowered with access to skills, knowledge, information and connections. Bees for Development started life as an organisation delivering information, and this aspect of their work remains at our core. Their full range of information services can be accessed through their Resource Centre. There you can find all the past issues of Bees for Development Journal and how to subscribe to future editions – free of charge to beekeepers in poor nations, and you can search their online library, access their manuals, guides and fact sheets. Users’ enquiries will be answered by their team of specialists. Their emphasis on building local capacity permeates every aspect of their work. They always work with local partner organisations and this partnership working is effective, lasting and impactful. Their work is based upon the interdependent and sustaining relationships between bees, and flowering plants and people – through the craft of bee-keeping. Plants provide bees with bountiful nectar in exchange for their pollination service, which enables the production of fruits and seeds on which humans and wildlife depend for food. The supply of nectar – transformed into honey comb – is often so plentiful that a surplus can be harvested and sold as honey and beeswax without harming this essential system. Bees for Development recognises that the exploitation of this bee-plant relationship – otherwise known as bee-keeping – can be done in a way that is wholly self-sustaining and beneficial. In pursuit of the Sustainable Development Agenda, humans face huge challenges to reduce the negative trade-offs between meeting people’s needs and conserving ecosystems. Beekeeping is an activity that delivers only positive synergies, yielding income for beekeepers and pollination services for life on land. Beekeepers know that their bees need plants to thrive, and hence are champions of floral diversity and conservation. In short, bee-keeping supports people and nature!

BEES for the world is a group of experts and entrepreneurs, building up sustainable value chains for bee products from the hive to the consumer market. At BEES for the world we have assembled a team with special knowledge in ecological beekeeping, bee health, bee races, biodiversity, ecosystem services, quality management, teacher education, social and health inequalities, business models, business administration and sustainable value chains. Together we want to be part of solving sustainability issues of deforestation, poverty, as well as bee and insect reduction. To reach this aim we work hand in hand with our partners worldwide with a focus on African countries. Our Vision. We design sustainable supply chains for high quality organic-certified bee products all over the world. The challenges we face. Bees: Local bee population drops because of night harvesting methods, as well as loss of forested ecosystems. Forest: Poverty-stricken communities are clearing forests to create additional farmland. Product: Raw beeswax from forest beekeeping is the best in the world. Mismanaged processing of bee products and missing quality control systems lead to low quality and low income. Community: Missing jobs and low income lead to poverty-stricken communities and the need of additional farmland. Our solution: Do it in the African way. Biodiversity: Work with local bee races in daylight beekeeping, which is advantageous for bee health, colony growth and has positive effects on local plant life and ecosystems. Education: Invest in communities through trainings in daylight beekeeping, processing of bee products, quality management and product presentation. Support young and socially disadvantaged groups. Empowerment: Create jobs on the rural countryside. Use only cost friendly and local available materials. Create income sources for local communities through additional harvests and production of high quality organic-certified beeswax. Sustainability: Work in non-contaminated rural environments. Protect local ecosystems by fostering environmentally friendly production techniques. Make forest areas economical valuable for locals.

Amanda, bee conservationist and enthusiast has been studying bees since 2008, an interest fostered informally in childhood. She began building Buzz about Bees in August 2010. Deciding to create it because of her concern about bees, and because she believed that people can make a difference and help reverse threats and declines by planting lots of flowers in their gardens. She also loved sharing her enthusiasm for bees, and wanted to inspire others. She began raising awareness of the plight of bees in 2008, and was extremely active on Twitter from 2009, sharing links to information and organizing letter writing campaigns. Back then, there was little awareness of the problems facing bees, and about issues such as habitat loss and the impact of insecticides. There was also very little information available on-line at that time. She was one of a very small group of trail-blazing independent campaigners. The group included a few beekeepers across the world (Phil Chandler, Tom Theobald, Graham White), a retired Consultant Anaesthetist and a Dutch toxicologist. A number of supporters assisted in helping to build momentum, and almost all of them were beekeepers. It is hard to imagine now, but a number of us had to withstand significant on-line abuse, and a general disregard from decision makers. It took time to generate the momentum behind the campaign. At last, major charities came on board from 2012 onwards after the EFSA inquiry into the regulatory position and evidence around the threat of neonicotinoid insecticides to bees, and they have since helped to spread the message. Amanda writes a lot about tips to help bees, gardening for bees, and enjoy raising awareness of some less well-known solitary species. She also uses her website to help change the perception of insects such as wasps, which are mostly very valuable helpers in the garden. She particularly offers advice concerning nests, and other general queries about how people can help pollinators. Aside from doing what she could by including flowers for bees in her garden, she found that one of the most effective ways in which a difference has been created is via written letters (usually to politicians) – Many initiated by her website using social media. She also writes short, informal features for local magazines, and along with some of her independent campaigning colleagues, fed a number of important stories and items of research with the mainstream newspapers. Some of which was the result of time-consuming, background investigation work. Amanda began working with children too, every once in a while, planting pots of wild flowers and making simple bee houses, and giving talks locally to increase education and awareness around bees. Her site contains information about bumblebees, honey bees and solitary bees specifically, including information about life cycles, gardening for bees, conservation issues, as well as various articles and snippets of general 'bee information' which will help to answer many questions.

Born and bred in beautiful Cape Town, mom to a long-awaited, witty, (inherited from me of course!), amazing, lively little 5-year-old girl, 2 dogs and 2 cats, 'my rescue children'. Married to Tomy, a senior digital content producer hailing from Tennenbronn, Germany. He is as introvert as I am extrovert – the scale balances beautifully. In my spare time (which is limited!) I sketch, paint, and try my hand at baking, while completing a mini-thesis in psychology. University after high school was not an option. I am also a seasoned HR professional, with a passion for people and process, building and maintaining great relationships form the foundation of both who I am, and what I do. And it’s a solid foundation. Hailing from the Pharmaceutical industry, I entered the world of investments about 14 years ago, where after joining as Office Manager, I moved into HR and have been in the HR sphere since. My journey has taken me on many a bumpy road, however, being a glass-half-full type, seasoned by an interesting childhood, and a solid determination to rise above, I march smilingly on. I have a passion for order, automation and software which could aid in optimization, easing transitions and processes. I am resilient with great sense of humour, always welcoming a challenge. I have a firm belief that building and nurturing relationships are paramount to success. I love meeting people and building relationships come naturally to me. I believe it’s the level of connection that counts. I am passionate about my work, I love what I do, and I do it well. I believe that doing what you love is a privilege. Yet, I still long for something more philanthropic in life. To give back, be it ever so small. Being an eternal optimist and peppered with life’s-experiences, I have been shaped into the person I am today. Pragmatic, passionate, and humble. An enormous amount of grit coupled a with good dose of grace! I am not done growing yet, not by a long shot, there are too many interesting, inspiring people to meet along the way, and there is always something to learn and something to contribute in life. It’s the journey that counts and I enjoy every step.

Rome wasn't built in a day. I’m of a very friendly nature and love to be with people who aren’t selfish. I am ambitious and will do anything to achieve my aim - "The Universe applauds action not thought"  I’m of a very adventurous nature and love to find good in everything I see. There are many things that make us depressed or upset, but that doesn’t mean that we stop living. You dust yourself off, honor the difficult times for the lesson it taught you, and walk away stronger and wiser. Independence and confidence were key in my life from a young age with venturing to the UK straight after school, and eventually ending up in Cape Town as my dream destination to live a happy balanced life where beautiful sunsets are part of your everyday life, and reminds you that dreams do come true. My professional life started as a labourer painting parks in the dire UK winter weather to Insurance consultant for a huge corporate company. Getting to know me over time it became clear that I adapt quickly and take pride in everything I do as I strive to leave everything and everyone better than you found them. Covid19 and the drastic changes that came with it has been the most challenging and rewarding time of my life. With a system that failed us all in so many ways, living a financially stable life is nearly impossible but forced me to get grounded with nature and realize that the best things in life are truly free. My senses for nature, animals, and my overall humility enhanced drastically. We are all just reminded once again that nothing ever goes as planned and that losing everything including your mind might be necessary to make you realize what a strong, resilient, and galactic species we truly are. Realizing this, I am now more than ever ready to spread love and kindness whilst challenging myself with new adventures that push me out of my comfort zone. There is no other time than the present that truly matters. And in this moment I am excited to change my reality and the lives of those around me.

I would consider myself a mix of both introverted and extroverted. I love being around and working with people but I also enjoy my own company. I’m also very family orientated. Family is everything to me! My passions are a mix between working with/building fruitful relationships with people whether it be in the workplace or day to day life, I love helping people and bringing out the best of those around me. Outside of that I also love doing anything to do with being outdoors. I’m always up for an adventure such as hiking, camping or even just a walk along the beach. I’m also passionate about and absolutely love animals. I’ve done horse-riding practically my entire life and it’s so therapeutic for me, to just get out into the country and get my mind off everything going on. I was born in Johannesburg, but lived majority of my life in the beautiful mother city known as Cape Town. I’ve never got the chance to travel outside of South Africa, however it is something I have always wanted to do and I know I will accomplish in the future. In the meantime, there’s actually so many parts of my own country that I haven’t even experienced yet, so I’d love to start there. My work life has involved various industries, starting off with retail and moving on to the sales environment both internal and external. I could say I had a certain plan for my life and career, but that all changed when I unexpectedly fell pregnant with my son. I then went from being an independent, carefree person to spending the last few months staying at home with my child. Which has honestly been life changing and I wouldn’t change a thing! However it’s now time to get back into the working world and do everything in my power to give my son the life he deserves and one I wish I had growing up.

Crown Bees are people with a passion for bees and pollination who care about environmentally conscious products and practices. In 1994, Dave Hunter, the Founder of Crown Bees, and his wife noticed that their neighbours’ apple trees had way more apples than the ones growing in their own yard. Dave, being a "why" person, needed to know more. After talking with their neighbour, he learned the secret of his success were mason bees. The following year, he experimented with a backyard bee garden of his own and watched their apple trees flourish! Years later, his passion took over, and he decided that he had to find a way to help these amazing pollinators thrive. So, he converted their garage into a work space and in 2008 Crown Bees was born. Over the years, they’ve outgrown the garage. And, while we're still a small company, they’ve had a big impact. Through collaborations with researchers, peers, and community groups, they have set the standard for best practices in solitary bee raising and have helped thousands of people across the United States and Canada grow fresh, healthy food. That desire to know "why" still drives Crown Bees. It's what keeps them informed on current challenges facing bee populations and brings them together to find sustainable solutions. Crown Bees helps create vibrant communities of bee raisers by providing healthy hole-nesting bees and bee raising supplies, along with quality support and educational programs to farmers and backyard gardeners. Crown Bees places huge emphasis on putting Bee's Health First Their criteria for safe and healthy bee’s rests on meticulous harvesting techniques to remove pests and pollutants, educating their bee raisers on research-based best practices, bee-safe products, and sorting their cocoons by ecoregions to give the bees a better chance of survival when they emerge in the spring. They are continuously updating their business practices to be more environmentally responsible and look to nature first for inspiration. They are committed to being transparent about their sustainability goals and progress towards their targets. They work and partner with beekeepers, landowners, researchers, K-12 schools, universities, non-profits, and government agencies to stay informed on the current challenges facing bee populations and to bring together the best practices for solving those challenges They sell mason bees for spring pollination and leafcutter bees for summer pollination. Their processes and product designs are driven by research and community partnerships to ensure they are bee-safe and sustainability-focused. Solitary bees, while they don't make honey, are expert pollinators! These gentle bees are known to improve pollination efficiency and increase fruit set (the process in which a flower becomes a fruit) by twice that facilitated by honey bees! Their goal is to help people help bees. Through educational and community programs, school resources, an evidence-based online knowledge base, newsletters and blogs, and their self-service support centre, they aim to help people address food insecurity, sustainability, and solitary bee conservation.

For over 150 years, Dadant and Sons has produced and sold the best beekeeping supplies & equipment available to beekeepers throughout the world. Whether you’re an experienced beekeeper or a new hobbyist, we can provide you with the proper equipment and information you need to be a successful beekeeper. The Dadant family has been interested in beekeeping for over 180 years. The founder, Charles Dadant, was born in 1817 in Vaux-Sous-Aubigny, a small village in eastern France, the second of seven children born to a small village doctor. He became interested in bees as he helped a neighboring priest remove honey from straw skeps at the early age of 12. Disillusioned with the business possibilities in France, he decided to accept an invitation of an old friend Mr. Marlot, then of Basco, IL, to come grow Champagne grapes and raise bees. In 1863, at the age of 46, he emigrated from France to America and settled in Hamilton, Illinois. The growing of grapes here did not prove to be lucrative, so he abandoned them in favor of honey bees. By the end of the Civil War, Charles had nine colonies of honeybees, and traveled with his young son, C.P. Dadant across the Mississippi River to sell honey and beeswax in a neighboring town. His interest in making quality candles grew from his love and knowledge of beekeeping. Charles was once the largest producer of extracted honey in America as well as one of the first to import queen bees from Italy on a large scale as he was unhappy with the common black or German bees he found here. He began a series of experiments on the size of hives and wrote a great deal on the large hive that appeared in both American and European journals. In 1872, he was offered the editorship of The American Bee Journal, but refused because of his unfamiliarity with the English language. He learned to read the New York Tribune by digging at the words one at a time with a pocket dictionary so that he could then translate it back into French for his wife. Charles was a dreamer, a man with ideas and determination. He was the experimenter who became more widely known abroad than in his adopted country. With the recent addition of Gabe Dadant (6th generation) and Matt Ross (7th generation) to the company, the family tradition will continue well into the future. Both of these young men are learning the different aspects of running the business. The company continues to remain the largest manufacturer of beekeeping supplies and is still a believer that “it pays to furnish good goods.”

Greetings to one and all. I am a child of the universe and I want to share that every day is a beautiful day. True, our emotions fluctuate but at some point during each day we will recognise that the day is a gift we have received and if we be true to ourselves we will smile and this will create feel good energy. We should practice this feel good energy and build on it so that each day it comes easier and earlier in the day, like a muscle it will grow. Become more evident and gather momentum and we will BE better for it. I believe in kindness and forgiveness towards others and myself. In a couple of months I will begin the first year of my seventh decade on planet Earth. I feel privileged to have lived long enough to grow. Twenty years ago I was facing a life threatening illness and not doing too well, I am a miracle. I believe we are all miracles. Some would differ. It can be a topic for discussion. I have extensive administrative experience - getting things organised, getting things done. With a stable track record, I am able to diversify within different industries. As part of a team I have a strong focus to resolve challenges and enjoy leaving any tasks I am busy with in a user friendly state (do unto others). I pride myself on my attention to detail & due diligence, going the extra mile in terms of improved efficiency and cost effectiveness. With strong English (both written and verbal) I am confident to communicate at all levels of an organisation, company or institution, with a strong emphasis on service delivery. My good communication skills help towards problem solving & interpersonal relationships. I enjoy taking on responsibility, it adds to my sense of well-being & purpose. I did a one year secretarial course in 1980 and my working life began from there. Living and learning life then became what I did, marriage, babies, etc. I guess I was lazy to further my qualifications, in hindsight I think I would have made a damn good surgeon LOL. Seriously, I have good eye, hand coordination, a good touch, and, consciously, I have become better at threading the needle. I believe strongly in being true to myself and honesty means much to me, honesty within and with others. And now, I am ready to start that next chapter in my career. I am blessed. I have over the years done various short courses including a deep tissue massage course so I am a certified masseuse however I only massage family and friends as I am no longer physically (strength and stamina) up to doing a job I am comfortable to charge for. Thought that was worth mentioning as it brings me pleasure to help others breathe and take time out. I have always worked in administrative support positions from Girl Friday to Executive PA and everything in between and in many different industries. My last couple of jobs have been from home (virtual) and in a new field namely customer service. This shift was challenging and I am proud to say I managed it pretty well. Working from home is what is necessary at this time given my current living circumstances. This change and the challenge that came with it reminded me that I have strong determination which is a very good thing. I am concerned for my granddaughter’s generation and what life will be like for them as adults, especially the environment they will find themselves in physically, mentally, emotionally. And, I would love to see the curricula in our educational systems adapting to educating our children to be more self-aware, mindful, engaging their senses, like an involuntary muscle, in the present moment and, to be able to guide their minds when it comes to EQ. I am an advocate for sports at a young age as this definitely develops our grit and stick-ability which comes in handy as we journey down the road with our name on it. I was a junior champion in both swimming and tennis, representing Zambia in both. Easy does it.

The Elephants and Bees Project is an innovative study by Save the Elephants using an in-depth understanding of elephant behaviour to reduce damage from crop-raiding elephants using their instinctive avoidance of African honey bees. The project explores the use of novel Beehive Fences as a natural elephant deterrent, creating a social and economic boost to poverty-stricken rural communities through the sustainable harvesting of “Elephant-Friendly Honey”. The Save the Elephant's charity was founded in 1993 by Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, CBE, Chief Executive Officer, who made a pioneering study of elephant behaviour in the late ’60s in Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania, and has worked on elephant status Africa-wide since. Explorers, conservationists and elephant scientists serve as fellow trustees or advisors to the board. Save the Elephants focuses on research, education, grass-roots conservation, monitoring and protection, and are involved in projects across Africa in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, South Africa and Mali. Research projects range from investigations into the dynamics of elephant society at a molecular level to ranging behaviour of savannah, forest and desert elephants using high-tech Global Positioning System collars. They are at the forefront of developing technology to track and interpret elephant movements, providing vital information for land-use management plans aimed at reducing conflict with humans whilst allowing elephants continued access to vital parts of their range. We are involved in surveys to measure population trends, elephant mortality and ivory trade, providing systematic and factual information used by CITES (Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species) to ascertain the conservation status of the African elephant They recognise the need to find solutions to reconcile elephants with the people with whom they share their land. The Elephants and Bees Project is core to their mission to investigate innovative and cost-effective methods to reduce conflict, as well as exploring the cultural relationships between people and elephants.

Born and raised in South-Africa by a single mother in humble surroundings. Doing Taekwondo for years and attained my International black belt with the following principles, this was apart of my childhood that guided me into my adult life: Showing courtesy to others no matter what level of society labelled them; training continuously whether I was up for it or not; showing integrity, even when no one was watching; perseverance when I wanted to give up; self control when it was difficult to compose myself and learning from my couch to have a indomitable Spirit. Finishing school it was expected of me to follow in the "Afrikaaner Man's" footsteps to have a job where you work many long hours a day, week in and week out, get your salary, sleep and repeat. My passion for music gave me the confidence to follow my heart and to head towards Cape Town for a short holiday, but I ended up staying here and studied for Audio Engineering, whilst completing my studies and gaining experience in the industry. COVID19 affected the industry drastically and I had decided to use my spare time productively by enrolling in courses such as Social Media marketing and Programming. I also started a small business where I rent out my sound equipment and host small gatherings and events. Helping friends with their business promotions and seeing how people enjoyed the events I have hosted, it made me realize that I have a passion to better others and their circumstances. Following my dreams against all odds lead me to where I am today and to appreciate every single moment by not wondering about the past or worrying about the future. Focusing on the task at hand and having it complete well within the deadline is what I strive to achieve and I love learning and gaining knowledge along the way to further myself in everything and anything I get the opportunity for. I am ready for new challenges and know that having a healthy work balance will help me to reach my full potential.

Live and love as if there is no tomorrow! Hi, my name is Emmerentia. I was born in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa, in the ‘60’s, which means that I'm an original, retro hippie chick at heart with the good, old-fashioned values to back it up. The highs and lows I’ve dealt with in life have taught me a valuable lesson…time is not guaranteed and is therefore not to be lost. I am enjoying my journey, still learning new life lessons and growing to become the person I am meant to be. I must pay tribute to the University of Experience and the School of Hard Knocks for the valuable contributions you have made to my life path thus far. Stronger. Wiser. Blessed. My passion is to help others to reach their full potential. It is even more difficult to do that in one’s own life (it’s so easy giving advice to others, isn’t it?) but making a direct contribution or figuratively planting a seed and watching it take root in someone else’s life is deeply rewarding. We are on this planet to live good lives and to make a positive difference to our direct environment, wherever our feet may fall. Aim for the stars; never forget your roots. Be yourself, stay humble, be kind, be grateful, make love an action…not a word. My mission is to help people from all walks of life, gain financial independence, while caring for the world around us. Learn how to earn. Make sure you have a meal, an income, clothes, a home and good health. There is no planet B. I’m a big fan of renewable resources, organic gardens and farming and hugging a tree. Helping our paw-legged friends in shelters, finding furever homes much faster. Same for birds, horses, donkeys, circus prisoners and liberating zoos. I am an excellent chef in my kitchen 😊 and I love baking (to put it mildly). My cakes and tarts are wickedly good and not being gluten intolerant is still my highlight of the previous decade! My downtime is spent walking, jogging, going to the beach, horse riding and playing golf. With over 38 years’ combined experience, accumulated by time spent in the corporate world and having 3 businesses over the years, I have a wealth of experience to share and utilize. Words, in a personal bio, aren't plentiful. Not to me, at least. I feel that the chances of someone reading about what your opinion is of yourself and BELIEVING it is remote. The tough part is that you don't know me, nor I you, yet I'm trying to “convince” you that what I say is who I am as a person and that what I say is what it is. The eyes are windows to the soul…that isn't exactly happening here, and that sense cannot always be replaced through words alone. So, the moral of the story is that what I list below as my key character traits, strengths, weaknesses, achievements, experience, etc. is in reality simply just that. Traits: Dedicated, honest, loyal, trustworthy, tenacious, dependable, creative, methodical, sense of integrity, ethical, tough but fair, empathetic, lighthearted and friendly. Strengths: Comfortable in a team environment or working independently, management, skills utilization, delegation, human relations, conflict resolution, analysis, strategizing, implementation, problem solving, business administration. Weaknesses: Impatience, self-critique, injustice and rudeness stirs my temper, being micro-managed, cheesecake. Experience: Sales, sales management, customer relationship management, business administration, directorship and general management of 3 x businesses previously owned/co-owned. Summary: A self-starter who gets what's required done, pronto. I am self-motivated, enjoy new challenges and try my best to excel at what's before me. I love working with people, as this is simply my passion.

With Environment America, you protect the places that all of us love and promote core environmental values, such as clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and clean energy to power our lives. We’re a national network of 30 state environmental groups with members and supporters in every state. Together, we focus on timely, targeted action that wins tangible improvements in the quality of our environment and our lives. Every day, we see more heartbreaking evidence of the damage being done to our planet: climate change, plastic pollution, wildlife disappearing forever. But we also see the solutions all around us, practically begging us to adopt them: solar and wind power, electric cars and buses, more walkable and “bikeable” cities, reusing and repairing stuff instead of throwing it away, and on and on. Environment America’s mission is to transform the power of our imaginations and our ideas into change that makes our world a greener and healthier place for all. Our parks, forests, mountains, oceans and the wildlife that depend on them help define our country and who we are as a people. They need our protection, especially as bees and other pollinators die off in unsustainable numbers, public lands and waters are opened up to drilling and mining, and plastic pollution in our ocean puts wildlife at risk. Through research reports, news conferences, interviews with reporters, op-ed pieces, letters to the editor and more, we educate the public about what’s at stake and what can be done. Our canvassers and organizers meet people where they are—in public places, door to door or online—raising awareness, recruiting new supporters and activists, and securing funds to support our work. At Environment America we make the case for our environment and help people like you make an impact—through petitions, emails, letters, phone calls and more, all delivered to the right people, just when it matters most. Our staff work together for clean air, clean water, clean energy, wildlife and open spaces, and a livable climate. Our members put grassroots support behind our research and advocacy. We stand up for the environment. You make it all possible. Bees are dying off at an unsustainable rate, with serious consequences for our natural world. They play a vital role as pollinators, and losing them would have a devastating ripple effect across all ecosystems. That’s why we’re working to expand bee habitats and stop the use of bee-killing pesticides. In recent years, beekeepers report they’re losing on average 29 percent — and sometimes nearly 40 percent — of all honeybee colonies each winter. It’s twice the loss considered economically tolerable. And, just as worrisome, wild bee populations are also in decline. There are more than 20,000 species of bees, and they are nature’s best pollinators. Ninety percent of wild flowering plants need animal pollinators. Without them, flowering plants will sharply decline, with dangerous consequences for all ecosystems. Scientists point to several causes for bee die-offs, including bee-killing pesticides, the loss of good habitat, disease and our changing climate. While we’re working to address each of these problems, the three things we can do right now to save the bees are to plant more pollinator-friendly plants; stop the use of bee-killing pesticides in parks, wildlife refuges and other places bees should be safe; and promote sustainable, less pesticide-reliant agricultural practices. 1. Reducing the sale and use of pesticides: Major retailers such as Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Walmart, Ace Hardware and many others have made commitments to move the market away from selling bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides, aka neonics. We’re calling on the online giant Amazon to do the same. 2. Protecting safe havens for bees: There are some places where bees should be safe. Parks, wildlife refuges, national parks and more should be free of bee-killing pesticides. Further, bee-killing pesticides have no place in our urban landscapes and backyards, as our urban environs have increasingly become important for bees. Already, Connecticut, Maryland and Vermont have banned the sale of bee-killing pesticides to consumers. America should do the same. 3. Planting pollinator-friendly plants: The great thing about habitat is that small spaces can do wonders. Parks, roadsides and government lawns are all perfect for wildflowers and pollinator-friendly plants. We’re calling on cities, counties, states and the federal government to commit to planting wildflowers and other plants that benefit bees. We helped convince Congress to call upon the military to manage its 11 million acres of land to better protect habitat for pollinators. The Environment America approach is that each of our campaigns aims to move us toward a cleaner, greener America in a particular way. But they share a common approach. Each campaign strives to: Put the environment first. A clean environment is not a by-product of American prosperity. Rather, a clean environment is the necessary precondition for true prosperity. Through our research and public education, we’re working to shift more hearts and minds over to this point of view. Take a strategic approach. We must think big and act boldly, but progress comes one step at a time. We don’t make broad statements; instead, we work to protect the American landscape and make a difference in American lives by building support for specific shifts in public policy. Build on what works. We’ve won policies that have resulted in landmark growth in solar and wind power as well as cleaner air, have reduced global warming pollution in 25 states, and made cuts in single-use plastics. We know which policies work, how they can be improved and what it takes to win their approval. And we’re open to new ideas that could work even better. Work together. We endeavor to unite people from all across the political spectrum, whether they are farmers in Iowa who benefit from wind turbines on their land, or urban Californians who want to store and share the solar energy generated on their rooftops, or restaurant owners who are finding alternatives to foam containers and straws to reduce single-use plastics. Our advocates in Washington, D.C., work with members of Congress from both parties. Our advocates in the states build coalitions that include business owners, doctors and nurses, religious leaders and community activists. Our organizers and canvassers engage hundreds of thousands of our members and activists in all 50 states.

I have been involved in the music industry for the better part of my life. As a performer and creator, I have had the opportunity to entertain many people over the years. I have a great passion for music and the arts in general. As an avid reader, I take great pleasure in immersing myself in the prose of those who are highly skilled in the literary arts. This stood me in great stead when I embarked on a course in Journalism a million years ago. Although I never completed the course, certain skills have stuck with me to this day. My journalistic endeavour was eclipsed by my musical passion. A passion that has given me much joy and also lead to much heartache. Nonetheless, being a staunch collector of music, it wasn’t long before I utilised this collection, and branched out into spinning records on dance floors around the country. Having grown up in Cape Town, South Africa, in the ‘80s, I was embroiled in the struggle for freedom. Battling the apartheid regime. This struggle, which was so much a part of everyday life, gave me a sense of something bigger than myself. A sense of community and belonging to something that was more important than my own personal well-being. Generally speaking, I would like to believe that I am an artist at heart. When I say that I don't mean that I like to draw or paint or any of the other physical manifestations of art. What I mean is that I approach life as art. If that makes any sense. I am the proverbial Jack of all trades. Master of a few. I think my biggest asset is that I am always willing to learn. That is something that I intend to keep doing until the last breath escapes my body.

"All things are possible" I love the outdoors, travelling, animals and people. I was an ardent hiker, and this allowed me to visit some of the most amazing hiking trails in South Africa. What inspires me most is the ability to positively impact the lives of others through the plethora of skills I have acquired over the many years of experience. I have the ability to add value wherever I am placed. I am energised by strategy, new challenges, and the search for the most efficient and impactful solutions. My career began in education. As an educator I enjoyed the children. I know this will always be part of who I am as I will always be passionate about teaching and will continue sharing knowledge, mentoring, and coaching, etc. I ventured into the corporate environment as I excelled with my financial skills and thought that my career would entail the chartered accountant route. I did the required academics, got the job and my focus was numbers and more numbers. Again, I was challenged because my love for people was not satisfied. I once again did a complete change in my career by studying, job shadowing and taking on projects in the learning and development and human resource departments. One of my memorable periods was asking the CFO of the organisation to give me the opportunity to split my job in two areas to show my capabilities and therefore be considered for a position that was eventually created for me. This was exciting and I thrived in this environment. I felt like I was adding value as the position focused on the growth and development of the youth, once again. I knew that I could accomplish more and add more value through venturing out on my own. I started my own business which offers the services of learning and development, strategy, human resources and finance. This has been an exciting journey with many challenges.

My name is Glorymar Hernandez, but I prefer to be called “Glory”. I was born in the capital of Venezuela, Caracas, and grew up amid the crowds of the city, the tranquility of the Andean mountains and the joy of the Caribbean coast. A mixture that has taught me to enjoy wherever I am, that aroused my curiosity to know the world, and that has helped me to adapt, with relative ease, to changes. I have a degree in Philosophy, my research works are in Philosophy of Language. Since 2019 I have been working as a Spanish teacher. I decided to start teaching my mother tongue thanks to my experience learning other languages. I had the opportunity to live for a year in Ireland, where I went to learn English and, currently, I am in Italy, where I have had the opportunity to learn Italian. These experiences allowed me to realize that, although seeking perfection when trying to “speak like a native” is the ideal, what really matters is being able to communicate, make ourselves understood and be open to the experience of knowing other cultures and understand that there are many different points of view. Professionally, I have had the opportunity to work in different contexts such as banking, outsourcing consular procedures, and teaching at university level. The biggest lesson I learned from these experiences is that I am not an office person. I prefer to own my time and have the freedom to work wherever I am. For this reason, I have decided to dedicate myself to teaching Spanish online and to enter the digital world. I consider myself a very curious and versatile person, that is why in my free time I enjoy handcrafting (such as sewing or knitting), volunteering, being in contact with nature, and trying to learn new things, like playing the guitar. Regarding my geographical preferences, the beach and the mountains are my main refuges, because I can escape from the noise of the city and connect with myself. That is why I would like to be able to live with my husband on a mountain, not far from the sea.

When it was first launched, this website was a joint project between Pesticide Action Network and Beyond Pesticides. The site — originally made possible by funding from the CERES Foundation — was part of our collective campaign to support bees and other pollinators being harmed by commonly used pesticides. While our collaborative work continues, this site is now solely operated by PAN. At Pesticide Action Network (PAN) North America, we work to create a just, thriving food system. For too long, pesticide and biotech corporations have dictated how we grow food, placing the health and economic burdens of pesticide use on farmers, beekeepers, farmworkers and rural communities. PAN works with those on the frontlines to tackle the pesticide problem — and reclaim the future of food and farming. Bees are in real trouble. In combination with other factors like habitat loss and disease, industrial agriculture’s heavy reliance on pesticides — particularly neonicotinoids — has contributed to dramatic declines in pollinator populations. Since 2006, commercial beekeepers have reported average annual losses of 29% – 45 %, with some losses up to 100%. This is unprecedented. While federal policymakers remain stuck on this issue, local communities have been stepping up to support bees and other pollinators. Across the country, people are creating pesticide-free “honey bee havens” with ample pollinator habitat and access to fresh water. From backyards to neighborhoods and cities, each haven helps protect the pollinators responsible for one in three bites of food we eat.

Villaggio dell’accoglienza (Welcoming village) is the answer for everybody has had anguishing experiences and is forced to live at the margins of society. It is an educational space that through the testimony of given life and laboratory activities allows a path to rehabilitation and re-integration. Thanks to the wonderful area of Lunigiana that touches Liguria, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna they have developed activities connected to apiculture. Il Pungiglione have more than 1000 families of bees and hive products from organic agriculture (propolis, royal jelly, wax) and become a specialized pole able to provide complex services to farmers: wax factory for wax making and wax sheets, wood working that produce beekeeping equipment, consortium honey factory for all the activities connected to honey production and sale. In order to show the extraordinary Villaggio dell’Accoglienza social project Il Pungiglione offers to visitors a new hostel with restaurant and a educational farm agreement with Tuscany Region and many others authorities at national level. We work with respect for nature: all the production activities of the Village exploit alternative energy thanks to the photovoltaic system. Pungiglione’s products are organic, certified by Bioagricert authority. The jewel of the crown of the production is represented by Honey Dop of Lunigiana, the first in Italian honey that obtained the reward, the only one Bio-Dop&Supportive thanks to the great work and efforts led by Stefano Fenucci and his team. Boceda was a dynamite factory, abandoned for many years until our arrival. In 1999 the remaining site dedicated to industrial production was composed by some old precarious buildings suffocated by vegetation. We cleaned and restored the buildings. From that period Il Pungiglione assisted a bloom of social recovery, both human and environmental, that we hope to carry on in the future with strength and determination.

Wamkelekile (‘Welcome’ in isiXhosa) to one and all! My name is Iman Martin – ‘Iman’ having both Arabic and African meanings for ‘faith’. Just like my name, I come from a multicultural background: my mom has Indian and Malaysian origins, while my dad is from the Griqua people/clan in South Africa. In the same vein, I am a Muslim and have Christian relatives with who I am very close. It is because of my diverse background that I feel I was raised to be both tolerant and respectful towards those that are of a different culture, religion, or ethnicity. Cape Town has been the only home I know, and I’ve never ventured far out of it. I do however envision myself travelling to different parts of the world a few years from now. I am passionate about women’s empowerment and women having the choice to choose for themselves! I have recently graduated from the University of Cape Town, with a Bachelor of Social Work (Psychology Major) and placed on the Dean’s Merit List, awarded for consistent academic achievement. Through hard work and perseverance, I was fortunate to have received a scholarship from the Department of Social Development for three of my four years of study. My mini-thesis explored the experiences and challenges of 1st-year students at UCT adjusting to university. Studying social work has not only allowed me to better understand those around me and their thought processes but also, to better understand myself and the possible reasons why I am the way I am. As part of my course requirements, I had to complete field practicals – by putting the theory that I was learning in class to practice in a real-world environment. My field practice experience ranged along a spectrum: from providing social work services to underprivileged youth in a primary school in Bonteheuwel, to interning in the more affluent area of Upper Wynberg, at an international school. This experience further fostered my innate empathy and non-judgemental outlook for those around me. I am someone who is not afraid to get my hands dirty, work hard and help out where I can: currently job hunting, I have occasionally been helping my father with renovations to his property that include painting, plastering, applying putty, etc. This has taught me many practical things that I hope to apply when I own my own house one day. A few months before now, I worked as a Personal Assistant to a therapist and social worker. This was a remote job that taught me valuable organisation and time-management skills. In my early years of study, I found myself working a sales assistant job at the Robben Island Museum Gateway store, and found that my favourite part of the job was interacting with the different tourists that happened upon our humble store and hearing their stories – where they were from and why they decided to visit SA, etc. I love reading, and since a young age, I’ve been considered a bookworm. I mainly enjoy supernatural and sci-fi novels and webcomics, as well as other forms of content such as newspaper and magazine articles (need to know what’s happening in the world around me). English was also my favourite subject at school, and I think this was also encouraged by my English-teacher mother who was quick to correct any incorrect grammar and pronunciation when my siblings and I spoke incorrectly. I often assisted her in marking her learners’ English examination scripts and as a result, am quick to pick up on spelling or grammatical errors. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, long walks with my dog Ninja, and photography. This has led me to submit a piece that is currently being exhibited at the Zeits Mocca Art Museum, in their long-running ‘Home is Where The Art Is’ exhibition. Furthermore, my faith has given me strength through the darkest times and taught me to be tolerant and understanding of those around me. I am still very much figuring life and myself out as I go along and am always open to learning from those around me.

The bee sponsorship ends automatically after one year. If you wish to extend your sponsorship, just let us know. The proceeds from our bee sponsorships ensure species-appropriate and sustainable beekeeping. In addition, we support projects to protect wild and honey bees. The death of insects has now reached dramatic proportions: every third species of insect is endangered or extinct according to the nationwide Red List . Monotony determine our cultural landscape more and more. Unfortunately there is no space for insects and other animal species. We have set ourselves the goal of actively promoting biodiversity in our region. We want to offer wild bees, butterflies and other animal and insect species a habitat , because they not only play an important role as pollinators in our ecosystems. With your help we can give something back to nature and let our environment blossom again. To do this, we remove areas that are used intensively for agriculture at suitable locations from conventional cultivation and sow a regionally adapted flowering plant mixture. This is how we create flowering meadows rich in species and sustainably promote biodiversity in the region . Not only does it create a habitat for wild bees , butterflies and many other insects, but also a structured retreat for other animal species.

The four main initiatives of IBCP are: Research - This aspect of IBCP continues from the initial research described above and is focussed on the Varroa mite parasite, which is the greatest threat to Ireland’s native honeybee. This study and breeding programme will be entering it’s 5th year at our dedicated research apiaries and laboratory during 2020. Results have been encouraging, where selected colonies are now showing tolerance of the Varroa mite through the expression of natural traits contained within the bee’s genome. Habitat Support - One of the main reasons for the diminishing numbers of certain species of Irish bees have been the reduction in foraging and nesting sites throughout the country. During 2019 the IBCP began a programme to combat this effect and established 20 specially designed “Bee Lodges” to provide shelter and breeding facilities for all species of Irish bees. These lodges were erected in large trees in Fota Wildlife Park and on farms in county Waterford. Wild bees are currently occupying these shelters and will propagate over winter and next year to increase the relevant populations. The target for 2020 is to establish a further 80 lodges in other locations throughout these counties. The Research project will feed directly into Habitat Support, as native honeybees with increased Varroa tolerance will have greater survival rates in the wild when introduced to the “Bee Lodges”. Biodiversity - Along with the reduction of wild nesting locations across the country, the reduction in foraging sites has led to a significant loss of species and range for some Irish bees. The Great Yellow Bumblebee is an example of this, where 60 years ago this species was prevalent throughout the country, but today it is endangered and found only in certain western counties. The IBCP through an education and networking programme are working to increase floral rich areas which are desirable to our native bee species. This initiative is focussed on creating multiple small areas of floral development in private and public areas and links directly into the Habitat Support initiative. This programme involves liaising with government bodies, businesses, farm groups, community groups, schools, hospitals, universities, eco groups etc. Education - IBCP have established a link with the Royal Microscopical Society to secure the use of teaching microscope kits which can be brought to schools to introduce students, (both junior and secondary) into microscopy, insect biology and specific aspects of insect biology associated with the life and survival of native Irish bees. These programmes will be carried out by IBCP in association with the teachers, who will develop curriculum-based projects such as foraging areas to attract bees and demonstrate how bee pollinators can manipulate and carry the pollen which is necessary for the continued survival of the bees. This initiative will enable the students to visualise the links between the bees they see every day and biology involved in the ongoing survival of these bee species. The added advantage to this education initiative is that the students will encourage their families and friends to support the Biodiversity requirements of our native bee species. In summary, the IBCP is working for the survival, protection and proliferation of Ireland’s native bee species. The four elements of our approach are highly integrated and through our growing network of members we plan to expand our initiatives from Cork and Waterford throughout the country over the coming years.

I was born in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, but raised in Jozini, Kwa-Zulu Natal and a Diver at heart. School Holidays was spent on the beach and in the ocean at Sodwana Bay. My Passion for acting started at a young age when I was approached by my arts teacher to play the lead as “Joseph” in that year’s school play, “Joseph and his technicolor dream coat”. In 2006, I moved to Saldanha bay Naval Base to conduct my basic training and upon completion, reported to Simon’s Town Naval Base Diving Centre. I worked at the Naval Diving Centre until mid- 2007, but reported for duty aboard SAS Spioenkop (Naval Warship) later that year and for the rest of my stay in the SA Navy. I resigned from the SA Navy at the end of 2009 to further pursue my childhood passion for Acting, after it had been re-ignited back in 2007, when a Production Company came to shoot the one part series, “Diver’s Down”, at the Naval Diving Base where I was stationed. Since then, I performed numerous small roles in Films and TV Shows with goals and aspirations to become a successful actor in the industry. Years later and struggling in the industry I started a Photography business in 2017 shooting headshots for actors in the industry and also specializing in Real Estate Photography. I also worked in the hospitality industry during this time working my way up to head of staff at a fine dining Italian Restaurant in the Bellville area of Cape Town. December 2018 I made the very hard decision to hang up my Actor’s hat and retire from the industry as I needed to make a change. So with a fire in my belly and a pursuit of a new career I embarked on an old passion within the boating world. I completed my Yacht Master Coastal and SAS Day Skipper certificate followed by a plane ticket to Nice, France. I spent a month walking countless amount of steps that would make “Discovery Vitality” proud on the docks of the various harbors handing out my cv in an attempt to book work as crew on board. With a few days worth of day work under the belt and finally booking an interview for a possible crew position, my visa expired and I needed to come home. Luckily I was being strongly considered for a position aboard but I needed to wait for the boat to come out of the drydock. With this I flew back to SA with a hopeful heart knowing that I would soon return to France. As things go, the opportunity was cancelled (Owner preferred a merger of the two available roles and he preferred a female). What to do now? Unemployed and with depleted finances of not being able to return I started looking for work and was unemployed until Sept the same year when I finally got an opportunity to begin work as a Junior Site Supervisor for a Construction Business (not ideal, but hey challenge accepted and gotta pay dem bills son!). I have since then worked for the same company, building weigh bridges, expanding warehouses, pouring concrete floors and laying paving. I have learned so much and have grown allot since then. Recently I approached and dusted off my photography equipment again and am in the process of starting this up as well. Being in the construction industry has sparked allot of ideas and have given me a new passion for real estate, especially as an Investor. People tend to describe me as ambitious, hardworking, punctual and goal-oriented. I have high attention to detail and work really well in both a team environment and on my own. I am pro-active, a problem solver and creative at heart. I won’t stop until the project or task is completed. More personally I enjoy the outdoors, love being fit and healthy and spending my off time with my most valuable assets; family and friends. Short term goals: – To learn and grow the new skills required to perform given tasks efficiently and with excellence. -To prove myself a valuable asset, as a hardworking, dependable and trustworthy individual to my fellow colleagues, managers and seniors. Long term goals: -To become one of the best in my department and be seen as the go to guy for a specific job or task. -To become manager and coach to younger generations looking to enter my industry. -To eventually run a team of managers, teaching them to effectively run their teams with excellence. I believe in serving others with excellence. The effort you put in will reap the results you desire. I also believe that being truthful, respectful and trustworthy are very important keys to success and I strive to live by these principles daily.

I am a positive, happy person who loves all aspects of my life. I love the beach, animals and children. I am a people’s person. I grew up in the Kruger Park and that is where my love for animals and people comes from. Love working with people from all over the world. I have three beautiful children and an amazing mom whom I adore. I received the most precious gift of all very recently when I was blessed by becoming a grandmother. Like most young people and since I can remember, I had a dream… I just wanted to be a teacher when I grow up. Like a lot of young people, I did not have the means to pursue my dream. At the age of sixteen, I started working in the Kruger Park tourist shop as a cashier during school holidays. Naturally, when I matriculated and because I could not attend a college or university to study what my heart desired, I started working for SANParks. I worked in different departments from the tourist shop to finally being promoted to year in advance bookings at SANParks head office. I will always “want to be a teacher in my heart but never will I be disappointed for the foundation I had. Working for SANParks gave me the opportunity, confidence and knowledge to work with tourists from all over the world. They had a huge hand in the way I see people and the quality of work I offer. I will always be thankful. I am a loyal, loving, understanding, empathetic and kind individual. I learned a lot about people over the years. People tend to confide in me and I am a very good listener. I can solve problems easily because people listen to me and usually follow my advice. It makes it a lot easier to solve problems in the work place concerning personnel and clients too. I have a sixth sense about people and it usually turns out to be spot on. The way in which I treat people, they will follow my orders without question. I learned a lot during my years working for different companies and working in different departments and environments. I know how to handle myself and every situation and challenge I am faced with. I am hard working and not afraid to learn new things. I am a quick learner and I always follow through on everything I do. Even if it is a new challenge I have to tackle and always give a hundred and one percent doing everything that has to be done. I am not afraid to walk the extra mile and to do everything to the best of my ability. I gained a lot of professional work experience. This includes... working as a reservations officer, receptionist, personal assistant, book keeper, financial administrator, school tutor and even running my own business for several years. I loved all the careers I pursued but my favorite by far was the work I have done with clients. It would be a honor and privilege to invest the experience I have gained and the skills I have mastered into your company and to share it with the world.

“The key to unlocking complexity, is simplicity itself” This is the lesson that I have learned time and time again, not just in business, but life as well. Hence my perspective, in that we can complicate life or take a pragmatic approach. I grew up in a single parent household, with my father and younger sister, uncommon in my community whereby most single parent would be one’s mother, but this has shaped my thinking…not everything is what it seems. Firmly believe that personal and moral growth is a direct consequence of uplifting communities and protecting the vulnerable. Recently, I was the MD of a rural firefighting programme and still remains one of my passions in terms of assisting underserviced communities. I’ve worked in television, mainly satellite broadcasting, the South African revenue service, back into broadcasting, then firefighting and now green economy initiatives including a component of green building construction and manufacturing. Personally, an avid motorcycle enthusiast as well as a proponent of animal welfare. As you will notice from my pictures, motorcycles and pets. Right now, we have 10 pets, 4 dogs and 6 cats. All are adopted and some rescued, save for the German Shepherd.

Thank you for your interest in beekeeping. We are David and Sheri Burns and we operate a beekeeping business in east central Illinois. As a family business, we believe we can give you the personal touch you need to become a successful beekeeper. We started beekeeping in 1994 and began building beekeeping equipment in 2005. We live down a long lane, and thus was born Long Lane Honey Bee Farms. Beekeeping is our love and passion and livelihood. We enjoy helping others get started in beekeeping. David began beekeeping in 1994 after hiving a swarm from a fallen tree. After moving those hives from Ohio to Illinois, the hives were lost due to mites, and the yard had to be started all over again. In the beginning, the Burns family just sold honey, but as time went on and the yard became bigger, the Burns family began building their own hives and selling them to other beekeepers. Knowing that the success of beekeepers was all dependent upon education, David began blogging and uploading videos to YouTube. In order to make sure beekeepers had the best and latest of scientific information on bees and beekeeping, David took several years to become a Certified Master Beekeeper. A graduate of Lincoln Christian University, and now a Master Beekeeper through the Eastern Apicultural Society since 2010, workshops on beekeeping are taught all year at the Training Center in Fairmount, IL. He also has a mentorship program, talks throughout the country at beekeeping association meetings, and heard frequently on radio shows and podcasts. He is also a competitive sportsman and competes throughout the US. Sheri is a former teacher who joined the business in 2008. A graduate of Lincoln Christian University with a degree in business management, she does just that - manages the business and customer service and can often be heard on podcasts with David. While she has staff in the office that helps her, she often prefers to talk to customers on the phone herself to make sure they get exactly the help that they need. In her spare time, Sheri raises and teaches their one child still at home, takes care of chickens and gardens, sings in a community choir, and likes nothing better than to hang out with her grandchildren or read a book. David and Sheri are the authors of the book Backyard Beekeeping - Everything You Need to Know to Start Your First Hive, available everywhere 7/20. Buy your bees and equipment before every one beats you to it. We know you can run off to a big box store to buy your beekeeping supplies, but we are a small, American hard-working family that would appreciate your business. Thank you for your support. We support our customers with expert advice, not myths and opinions. Some beekeepers and clubs are private and keep information close to their chest. You've probably met beekeepers who will not help you. We are here to help and as you can see throughout our site, videos and podcast, we freely share information that will help you become a better beekeeper. We hope you'll show your appreciation by purchasing your equipment from us, which enables us to stay in business. We have become known for our amazing beekeeping courses and our really fun and highly informative online beekeeping courses. We introduce thousands of new beekeepers to beekeeping each year through our thorough, yet simple to understand beekeeping lessons, which are available online and in person at our training center. Our goal is to provide the best urban and basic rural beekeeping materials possible at an affordable price. We manufacture all hive components and ship to all 50 states. When you purchase from us, not only does it allow us to live out our dream of making a living from beekeeping, but it allows us to continue to work hard at helping more and more people start beekeeping. We need more backyard beekeepers to help save the honey bee. David is a certified Master Beekeeper of the Eastern Apicultural Society of North America. Beginning beekeepers call us from around the country asking for advice and opinions. It is such a joy for us to see more and more people become involved as beekeepers!

My name is Luis Guillermo Castro Martin. I am a philosopher specialized in philosophy of mind and language. In particular, I am interested in the nature of consciousness, and the way in which we experience and interpret the world. I started my studies at the Central University of Venezuela in 2006, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (2011) and a master’s degree in logic and philosophy of science (2015). In 2012, the university offered me a position as a professor of philosophy and I taught several courses there until 2017, when I enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Genoa, Italy. I have also published several papers in philosophy journals and participated in various international events. In 2020, while writing my PhD thesis, I realized that I had been immersed in philosophy for too long and decided to use my experience to rejoin the real world. In my years studying philosophy, I have learned many things, but the most important is that the world is what we make of it, there is no ultimate truth, no final word. We create our reality. Knowledge has somehow separated us from others and nature, perhaps it can also reunite us. Although I was born in Venezuela, my family is a blending of different nationalities and traditions. I have lived and studied in different countries, which are all part of who I am and what I want to be. My actions define me, not my nationality or my origins. I do not believe in borders or limits; they are only in our minds. The sensation of not belonging can be liberating, once we realize that, by not belonging somewhere, we belong everywhere. I speak three languages (Spanish, English, and Italian) and I enjoy learning from other cultures, as well as transmitting the values of my own. I also enjoy music, sports and nature. I am the author of “Fragments of Mind” on Substack. A space for thinking outside the box, while discussing philosophical matters.

Whether you are just starting out in the world of beekeeping or run a full-scale, commercial beekeeping business, we have all of the top-of-the-line products and services you require. Mann Lake is at the forefront of the ever-changing beekeeping industry. Throughout the challenges that have arisen, Mann Lake has met them head-on to ensure the survival of the honeybee for all. Regardless of the number of hives you keep, we at Mann Lake have the same goal in mind as you... to keep this natural pollinator flourishing. Jack and Betty Thomas started Mann Lake Ltd. in 1983 because they couldn't find the quality beekeeping supplies they needed for their own beekeeping hobby. They began selling supplies out of their garage but quickly found a lot of other beekeepers were under-served as well. Realizing the need was bigger than their garage, they moved the business from their home to downtown Hackensack. Since then, we’ve expanded to California, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, Kentucky and Oregon. The Mann Lake family continues to grow to better serve its customers with the addition of Kelley Beekeeping out of Kentucky. We are proud to offer not only another location for Mann Lake customers to shop but to include the great traditions and products of Kelley Beekeeping into our family. We’ve also branched out into the exciting world of poultry to provide you both with the knowledge and products of both the birds and the bees! Mann Lake acquired Stromberg’s Chicks & Gamebirds to offer the latest and greatest birds, poultry products and feeds on the market today. Stromberg’s is also a Minnesota based company with a history expanding 100 years!

Let our founder, Mikaila, explain the origin of Me & the Bees Lemonade: When I was just four, I got stung by a bee and then got stung again less than a week later! Naturally, I didn't enjoy the bee stings at all and I became scared of bees. But then after doing some research about them, I became fascinated and learned all about what they do for me and our ecosystem. Around that same time, my family encouraged me to make a product for a couple of children's business competitions - the Acton Children’s Business Fair and Austin Lemonade Day. So I put on my thinking cap. I thought about some ideas. While I was thinking, my Great Granny Helen, who lived in Cameron, South Carolina, sent my family a 1940s cookbook, which included her special recipe for flaxseed lemonade. So then I thought, what if I make something that helps honeybees and uses my Great Granny Helen's lemonade recipe? I decided to give her beloved lemonade a new twist by adding honey from bees, instead of only sugar. That's how Be Sweet Lemonade was born! However, we had to change the name due to a copyright issue, so we decided to call it Me & the Bees Lemonade because we give a percentage of sales to help save the bees. We are now celebrating more than 10 years in “buzzness!” Mikaila started her lemonade at youth entrepreneurial events and at her lemonade stand out in front of her home, donating a percentage of the profits to local and international organizations fighting hard to save the honeybees. That is why she touts: “Buy a Bottle… Save a Bee.” Now at age 15, her little idea from more than 10 years ago continues to grow and grow...by more than 500 percent since the company’s humble Austin, Texas-based beginnings. Today, the award-winning, ready-to-drink Me & the Bees Lemonades in five refreshing flavors is buzzing off the shelves of Whole Foods Market, The Fresh Market, World Market, H-E-B stores across Texas and Kroger stores in Houston. It is also available at a growing number of restaurants, food trailers and natural food delivery companies. When not traveling for speaking events to share her stories of being a social entrepreneur, leading workshops on how to save the bees, or participating in social entrepreneurship panels, you can find Mikaila coming up with ideas to help the Healthy Hive Foundation, a nonprofit to further help the mission of saving the pollinators.

Bees have been part of our family since 1978, when Marie-Claude Dupuis and Claude Desrochers acquired their first hive at Ferme-Neuve in the Hautes-Laurentides. Over the years, they have instilled in us the desire to take over the family stock and create Miels d'Anicet at the turn of the year 2000. The adventure could begin. Who are we? Mad people mad about honey, artisans of the earth, epicureans, curious people who consider the profession of beekeeper as a perfect mix between entomology, biology and botany. But still, a couple who adore their profession, the bees and the good life in good company. Born in a beehive, Anicet has a deep love for this fantastic insect and the science of apidology. It is also inhabited by the desire to contribute to the survival of bees by naturally reversing their mortality rate through the selection and reproduction of hardy queens adapted to their environment. On a daily basis, he ensures the health of our colonies and promotes his expertise internationally in order to advance beekeeping science. Beyond the honey it produces, the bee plays an essential role of pollinator and guardian of our environment. Inhabited by an unwavering love for these guardians of our biodiversity, we place their survival at the heart of our beekeeping practice. This is why we explore the four corners of the planet, eager for a thousand and one taste discoveries, anxious to take meaningful action and acquire new development tools. Back at Ferme-Neuve, each experience tints our way of creating in its own way. Queen breeding with rustic genetics, production of high quality wild honeys, development of gourmet and bodily products, seasonal catering: all occasions are good to promote beehive products and promote the culture of honey in Quebec.

National Honey Board is an industry-funded agriculture promotion group that educates consumers about the benefits and uses of honey and honey products. Their research, marketing, and promotional programs are funded by an assessment of domestic and imported honey and are designed to increase awareness and usage of honey by consumers, the food service industry, and food manufacturers. To achieve their goals, they fund research projects designed to find new and improved uses for honey in foods and other products. They offer consumers honey information through recipes and photographs of honey-serving ideas that are provided to newspaper and magazine editors across the country. National Honey Board provide information for special honey and beekeeping stories that appear in newspapers, the internet, and on radio and television stations. They provide honey merchandising materials to honey industry producers-packers, retailers, the food service industry, and honey handlers. Also, they fund research projects to find ways to maintain the health of honey bee colonies and, they fund programs to educate chefs on the uses of honey. The National Honey Board began in the mid-1980s when a group of honey producers and other industry representatives got together to discuss a powerful new idea: What would happen if they pooled their resources to work to spread the word about honey? By working together, they theorized, the industry could advertise, conduct research, and promote honey in ways that were simply too costly and time-consuming without a cooperative effort. The original National Honey Board was authorized by an Act of Congress and established under the rules and regulations of a subsequent Federal Order. The Board began operation in early 1987. In April 2008, the first handlers and importers of honey and honey products voted to approve a new national honey packers and importers program. The vote was taken in a referendum conducted by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). Operations of the previous Honey Board were picked up by this new program and the name National Honey Board was kept. The Board is authorized by the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996 and was established under the rules and regulations of the Honey Packers and Importers Research, Promotion, Consumer Education and Industry Information Order that was published in the Federal Register on May 21, 2008. The Board's programs are administered under USDA supervision.

Join us as we escape the rat race of South East England and settle into farm life in Central Portugal. We are Ken & Gina and we started the OKportugal Youtube channel back in 2019 when we decided to leave the hustle and bustle of the UK for a quieter life on a farm in Central Portugal. We now live on an amazing 3.5 hectare farm along with our cats, Nanook & Mecho and our two dogs, DogDog and Mimosa. Our journey began back in the UK, in September 2019, where we sold our house, packed all of our belongings and drove across Europe to Portugal in our campervan Bob along with our animals. We moved into a lovely rental house, high up in the Serra da Estrela mountains, meeting many friendly and generous locals and spent the next few months searching for our dream farm. In December 2019 we moved into our dream farm during Portugal's worst storm in a decade. We have had many trials and tribulations along the way and have documented them all in our Sunday weekly vlogs for our subscribers to enjoy.

Pesticide Action Network (PAN) was founded in 1982 and is a network of over 600 non-governmental organisations, institutions and individuals in over 60 countries worldwide working to minimise the negative effects of hazardous pesticides and to replace their use with ecologically sound and socially just alternatives. Its projects and campaigns are coordinated by five autonomous Regional Centres. PAN Europe is the regional centre in Europe. It was founded in 1987 and brings together 38 consumer, public health, and environmental organisations, trades unions, women's groups and farmer associations from across Europe. They work to eliminate dependency on chemical pesticides and to support safe sustainable pest control methods. PAN Europe is committed to bringing about a substantial reduction in pesticide use throughout Europe. Pesticide (including biocides) reduction is a prerequisite for improvements of public and workers' health, protection of the environment, and its strict implementation is in line with the precautionary principle. PAN Europe's vision is of a world in which high agricultural productivity is achieved by truly sustainable agricultural production systems in which agrochemical inputs and environmental damage are minimised, and where local people control local production using local varieties. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was founded in 1980 and is dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all animals. PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way. PETA educates policymakers and the public about animal abuse and promotes kind treatment of animals. PETA is an international nonprofit charitable organization based in Norfolk, Virginia, with affiliates worldwide. PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview, and focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. They also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. PETA has always been known for uncompromising, unwavering views on animal rights. They aren’t afraid to make the difficult comparisons, say the unpopular thing, or point out the uncomfortable truth, if it means that animals will benefit. The very heart of all of PETA’s actions is the idea that it is the right of all beings –human and nonhuman alike– to be free from harm. Our world is plagued with many serious problems, all of which deserve our attention. Cruelty to animals is one of them. PETA’s “Uncompromising Stands on Animal Rights” is an overview of what sets PETA apart. Their positions may be controversial, but they are always true to their driving mission: to stop animal abuse worldwide. We have the power to spare animals excruciating pain by making better choices about the food we eat, the things we buy, and the activities we support.

The Purple Hive Project is an initiative by B honey and Bega Cheese Limited. B honey is committed to supporting the local honey industry by helping protect honey bees (Apis mellifera) from the significant threat of Varroa Destructor (Varroa mite) arriving in Australia. Varroa destructor is a tiny mite that is crippling honey bee colonies around the world, which could have a devastating effect on our honey industry and Australian agriculture more broadly. Australia is the only populated continent in the world that has not been impacted by Varroa destructor, but its potential arrival in Australia is a very real threat. If Varroa destructor were to establish itself here in Australia, it could have a devastating affect on our honey and pollination dependant industries. Honey bees play a significant role in the pollination of food crops in Australia – some crops are almost entirely reliant on honey bees for pollination. The Varroa mite, which has crippled bee colonies around the world, is threatening the viability of the Australian beekeeping industry. It is estimated that the healthy population of honey bees, and the pollination services they provide could be reduced by 90-100 per cent, with the potential to impact producers of crops such as almonds and apples who rely on the pollination services that bees provide. It is estimated that one in three mouthfuls of food that Australians consume relies on bee pollination. The Varroa mite is a tiny mite that attaches itself to honey bees and honey bee brood to the detriment of the honey bee and the honey bee colony. The Varroa mite is also known to transmit viruses amongst honey bees which can cause defects to the honey bee. The Purple Hive Project has been developed to monitor and send real time alerts to beekeepers and biosecurity if a Varroa mite is detected, allowing them to quarantine the hive and remove the Varroa mite in order to help protect Australia.

I am a 26-year-old woman, born and raised in Johannesburg where I have lived my entire life. One of my biggest aspirations is to travel across South Africa and eventually the world. Although I was bred a city girl, my heart lies at sea. Another one of my aspirations is to own a home along the South African coast, within walking distance to the beach. I have been known as a bookworm since childhood. I always preferred to have my nose in a book rather than watching cartoons, hence my passions are reading, writing, and editing. Taking my love for books into account, I decided to study English literature, linguistics, and journalism. I have a great love for animals, and I currently have four dogs and a cat. I also love being out in nature. I am always keen to go hiking, take a trip to the beach, or take the dogs for a walk in the park. Another one of my interests is fashion. I have my own sewing machine and often create clothing for myself. I believe we are all responsible for our actions, and we decide where we want to go in life. I think if you want to do something, and you believe you can do it, you can. All you have to do is put in the effort. Nothing comes easy, but if you put the work in you will achieve your goals and be anything you want to be. This is something I live by. I also think that building relationships and being able to work with others is extremely important. Succeeding in your endeavors often depends on how you work with and treat people, not just on what you can accomplish on your own. I have only started my journey, but I am looking forward to experiencing new things, building good relationships, and making the most out of every situation or opportunity.

My Bio will tell you about my past and present. The past is important but nothing is more important as the present ME! The Beautiful and strong ME! The ME that makes the people who know and love me happy to be in my presence, the present me is what matters. My values and morals and my way of thinking are what is important, the past was just the "making of", the preview one see's of movies and series, the past is an ancient scroll where most of my life is narrated by my parents, teachers, siblings and the other significant people who come and go from one's life, My present is the true picture of what I am and who I am so let me give you insight into who I am: I am a straight talker yet I am loving and a helpful person who is always willing to learn new things, I follow rules only when it makes sense and is fair. I was born to a mixed-race couple in the "old South Africa (during apartheid)" while the political climate was unstable and in its rebirth stage, my mixed-race background has made me culturally rich. Ancestrally I come from a diverse lineage, I have a Scottish and Irish father, a mother with little french a little Indian (Afghan and Pakistani), I have a little of everything, which has made me the odd one out as I look different from the rest of my family, I do not fit in with the brown people, I do not fit in with the white people and there is nothing wrong with that I do not need to be labeled to feel like I belong, I am one of the reasons why our country is known as the rainbow nation a mix and mashed beautiful product of all that is good. My personality and likes have made me the odd one out and the weird one, luckily my husband is just as weird as I am, I always tell him my weird matches his weird, it makes us a perfect match, we were made for each other destined to be together almost as if it was written in the stars, a destiny fulfilled with a happy future in the ahead of us. Happy and together forever and always, I still find it hard to believe that there is someone out there who not only gets me, who understands me, my way of thinking, and the way I view the world but most importantly who LOVE'S ME for ME! I consider myself spiritual and not religious although I was raised catholic and attended a convent where a lot of who I am today was made. The making of ME! The sisters of mercy and catholicism had the opposite of the intended effect on me I am not deeply rooted in the catholic faith, even though I had many lovable and amazing teachers and friends who made my school days worthwhile. Religion does not make sense to me and I consider much of it to be untrue, designed and shaped to manipulate and to rule the masses or one could say those who prefer not to think for themselves who would rather be sheep and led to the slaughterhouse willingly. My philosophy is this: as long as I love myself and my neighbor I believe I'm living the right way and try to instill those principles and values in my two sons. I believe that knowing and giving Love encompasses all the values needed to live a healthy life, Love naturally breeds, respect, forgiveness, and mindfulness. Love means living from the heart when one lives from the heart it naturally voids the ego, the ego destroys the manically malevolent whereas the heart creates and builds, Love is a tool with which one can build a life rich in emotional health, enlightenment, and mental stability. Love is my church, love is my essence and if ever I am in doubt I read up on the writings left to us by all the great masters, Jesus, Muhammed, Buddha the Dalai lama and so many more masters, some of whom are more modern and still living and basically all their writings convey the message of Love. So this me and there is more to me than what is written here, but what is written here is more than enough to get to know me better.

In 1873 the Carniolan Association for Prudent Beekeeping was established in Ljubljana, which represents the beginning of the organisation of the Slovenian beekeepers. Since 1898, they have been publishing the technical magazine Slovenian Beekeeper (Slovenski čebelar). Today, the beekeeping organisation is known as the Slovenian Beekeeper’s Association. It includes 207 beekeeping societies and 14 regional beekeeping associations, with a total of about 7,500 beekeepers. Its main tasks include the education and training of beekeepers in the framework of lifelong learning, publishing the Slovenian Beekeeper monthly and various technical books, the preparation of exhibitions, discussions and symposiums, the organisation of school clubs, beekeeping camps and workshops, raising the public awareness about the importance of bees in the preservation of the environment, the promotion of bee products in healthy nutrition and the list goes on and on. Slovenian Beekeeper’s Association (SBA) is also registered as a Research institution. Within the institution operate four different researchers and three technicians. The Unit participates in research projects, which are mainly from the field of providing safe bee products, protection of Carniolan bee and technologies of beekeeping. Within the institution operates a laboratory for analysis of bee products and, when needed, even a different number of bee colonies, which are intended for research. Since 2007 every third Friday in November, Slovenian beekeepers have been organising an educational-promotional campaign for kindergarten and primary school children entitled “Honey Breakfast”. On this day, children have Slovenian honey for breakfast (it is mostly donated by various beekeepers). The idea for the educational-promotional campaign stems from the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association, which now presents an initiative to establish the “European Honey Breakfast”. TheBreakfast in Slovenia has been supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. Honey Breakfast is based on a collaboration of beekeepers and teachers and is co-ordinated by the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association and Public Advisory Service on Beekeeping. Every year, beekeepers societies from local areas collect honey and most of it is donated to kindergartens and schools. Also, an educational publication is published and distributed among children. Besides beekeepers who are in charge of presentations and children’s workshops, mayors, various officials, athletes and many other prominent figures are present at the Breakfast too. It is supported by the media as well; they publish numerous articles and thus raise the awareness of the public on the importance of beekeeping.

I was born in Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha), South Africa. I’m an outgoing person who is both introverted and extroverted depending who I’m with. I enjoy meeting and interacting with new people because I believe this is how you learn and grow as a person. I’m forever looking for new adventures or challenges. I’m a go-getter, never afraid to fail because we learn more from our failures and build character from them. I believe one is never too old to learn something new things. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” doesn’t apply in my life. I enjoy the outdoors especially hiking, which has exposed me to some of the most beautiful hiking trails in South Africa. I also love taking game drives and explore our nature especially the animals in their natural habitats. I haven’t had the opportunity to travel beyond the borders of my country. Hopefully one day I’ll travel the world, meet different people and get to experience diverse cultures and cuisines. I had dreams of becoming a medical doctor but due to financial difficulties I settled for a National Diploma in Biomedical Technology. At least I got to work in the medical environment with doctors and other medical personnel for about 5 years. I realised that working in a laboratory was not suitable for my personality because I love people, I enjoy interacting with different people. I enrolled for a Diploma in Marketing and that led me to the pharmaceutical industry where I combined both my medical background and the marketing qualification. I worked in Sales and Marketing departments. I also had the opportunity to turn my passion for fashion into a business adventure and started my online clothing store which was a very exciting and challenging adventure. I learned a lot about importing and e-commerce. When motherhood happened and I took a break to become a stay home mom. I got involved in fitness and nutrition business. I realised that the entrepreneurship bug has got me and needed to empower myself to avoid mistakes I made in my previous business adventures, that is when I decided to register for a BCom degree in entrepreneurship via Unisa, which what I’m currently busy with. I am also teaching English as a foreign language online on freelance basis. I plan to also learn one or two foreign languages as I plan to travel the world in the not-so-distant future. I’m excited about the future and learning more in this university of life.

The Honeybee Conservancy was founded in 2009 by Guillermo Fernandez in response to the news that bees across the globe were in crisis. In fall of 2020, The Honeybee Conservancy relaunched as The Bee Conservancy to better capture our work protecting all bees and securing environmental and food justice through education, research, habitat creation, and advocacy. As a child immigrant from Cuba, Guillermo grew up in a crowded, multi-ethnic urban area where one-third of the community lived in poverty. His neighborhood, like so many others, was a food desert; fresh fruit and vegetables were near impossible to find, supermarkets stocked mostly processed food, and local restaurants were all fast food chains. There was little-to-no green space, just concrete as far as the eye could see, and the community suffered from rampant health issues that were the result of poor nutrition and degraded environment. Decades later, Guillermo started The Bee Conservancy for two reasons. First, he wanted to help save the bees, who pollinate 1 in 3 bites of food we eat and are vital to healthy ecology. Second, he hoped to find ways to empower underserved communities like the one he grew up in to produce healthy food and build green spaces. Our initiatives, such as our flagship program Sponsor-a-Hive, have served hundreds of thousands of people across the United States, and protected an estimated 10 million bees to date.

BGO (the Bee Girl Organization) is a grassroots non-profit, centred on bee habitat conservation through research, regeneration, & education. They envision a future where kids frolic in pastures of flowers, buzzing with bees, alongside profitable family farmers and ranchers. Through their research projects and education programs they are regenerating soil, bees, and communities. Organization founder, Sarah “Bee Girl” Red-Laird, leads a team to show kids, bee-keepers, and farmers how to love their bees through classes, events, summer camps, and habitat projects. The team engages with communities across the nation, and the globe, spreading knowledge and bringing a sense of wonder from the hive to the people. Sarah Red-Laird is a graduate of the University of Montana's College of Forestry and Conservation and the Davidson Honours College with a degree in Resource Conservation, focused on community collaboration and environmental policy. Sarah also serves as the “Kids and Bees” program director for the American Bee-keeping Federation. To see her commitment to good policy and community collaborations realized, she also has served as president of the Northwest Farmer's Union and Western Apicultural Society, and as a board member of the National Farmers Union. At the 2015 Northwest Farmers Union Conference, Sarah became inspired to work with farming and ranching friends to find the best possible "win-win-win" solutions for farmers and ranchers, and bees and bee-keepers. This journey led to regenerative agriculture, and the understanding that rebuilding soil is the first step to healthy bees, livestock, and people. The “Regenerative Bee Pasture” project is a multifaceted initiative comprised of research, technical discovery, and community education. They are working hard to develop a low maintenance and inexpensive flower-rich "regenerative bee pasture" for ranchers to both substitute for chemical fallow, and to interplant in pasture for an environmentally and economically improved area for farmers and ranchers to harvest or graze. They also hope to provide a strong nectar flow to feed bees and provide a honey crop for bee-keepers. The Bee Girl organization manages and tests two pasture test plots, and one working pasture, with the guidance and partnership of their collaborators at Diamond Bar Beef, Eastern Washington University, Washington State University, Oregon State University (honey bee lab, and local extension), and the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District. They analyse bee, soil, pollen, and plant material chemistry, biology, and microbiology. They aim to develop a hardy pasture mix and land management system that can rebuild soil, restore water cycles, sequester carbon, provide high levels of protein for livestock, and also abundant nectar and nutrient-rich pollen for bees. As part of this project, they are experimenting with innovative farming and ranching equipment and methods to improve soil such as rotational and adaptive grazing, no-till seed drilling, and roller crimping. After the research and development phase, they plan to create and implement educational programming for site prep, planting, irrigation, and harvest or grazing, to maximize benefits for bees, bee-keepers, and farmers and ranchers. With the Regenerative Bee Pasture project, they are exploring ways to increase community resiliency through diversity on multiple levels - microbial diversity (bee gut, soil, and pollen), bee species diversity, ecological landscape diversity, food system decentralization, and perhaps most importantly, exploring the human connection to our own minds to increase inner-resilience for the greater good of all. The “Bee Friendly Vineyards” pilot program began in April of 2019. With the help of their squad of volunteers, they launched their program by planting 1,800-square-feet of Siskiyou Seeds sunflowers on a plot of previously unused land at a local vineyard. Their sunflower plot attracted bees, provided vital habitat to pollinators and other beneficial insects, and stabilized and built soil. Recent studies have indicated that sunflowers increase bees’ resistance to pathogens and parasites. Bees provide one out of every three bites of food that we eat. No bees, no food, no us. It's also a commonly known fact that our bees are in trouble. Annual losses of honey bee colonies are in the tens of thousands. Solitary and bumble bees at are being lost at unsustainable rates. It will be up to the next generation to not only understand their importance, but to take action in their conservation. Their “Kids and Bees” program teaches kids, in a positive and engaging way, why bees are essential to everyday life and how the kids can be honey bee heroes. The mission of the Kids and Bees program is to educate the next generation on the importance of bees and to inspire them to take part in their preservation and conservation.

The Natural Beekeeping Trust was formed in 2009 in response to the need for an alternative approach to the care of bees. The key aims of the trust are disseminate information about bee-centred, natural beekeeping, develop new understandings and ways of relating to the bee that work with the natural behaviour of the creature rather than the enforced and stressful behaviour seen in conventional, chemical-dependent, beekeeping. The Natural Beekeeping Trust is delighted to be collaborating with partner organisations in Turkey, Holland and Macedonia on a two-year international sustainable beekeeping project funded by Erasmus+. We will document existing practices that focus on sustainable and bee-centred husbandry during field visits in partner countries, and will develop online resources and training opportunities for beekeepers and farmers. The Trust is governed by the UK Charity Commission, with which it is registered as a not for profit organisation. We encourage attention to the real nature of bees, their nesting preferences, their forage needs and their all-encompassing purpose. We hope to inspire people to live in peace with the bees, be good hosts to them, guard them and grow for them, in all ways imaginable.

We started The Urban Beehive in 2010 with the aim of supporting the honeybees that do their critically important work in urban Sydney. We put beehives in city backyards, businesses, community gardens and on rooftops; from Bondi to Marrickville – even the Botanic Gardens. Across Sydney, the bees are enjoying some great views! And our hives are happy and healthy. But internationally, bees are in drastic decline, with whole populations being destroyed overnight as a result of introduced threats. We’re here to help protect local bee populations against these threats; and to raise awareness of the plight of all our beneficial insects. We do this partly through education with our popular beekeeping courses in The Centennial Parklands. We also do plenty of public speaking and now have a beekeeping shop in Matraville, Sydney where you can buy all your beekeeping needs in one place.

Since its foundation in 2009, the Wheen Bee Foundation has established itself as Australia’s premier, not-for-profit organisation supporting honey bee research and development. Its founder, Gretchen Wheen, was a well-known commercial beekeeper specializing in the supply of quality queen bees for local and overseas markets. Wheen recognised the fundamental link between honey bees and food security, and was concerned about the growing threats to the beekeeping industry. Before she died she donated her farm and other resources to establish the Wheen Bee Foundation, with the aim of supporting and developing research, innovation, training and communication to ensure a viable beekeeping industry and protect our food supply. The Foundation actively works to attract donations to enable further research and innovation projects to achieve its mission of food security through bee security. The Wheen Bee Foundation is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

“Fall down seven times, stand up eight.” A Japanese proverb close to my heart. It has helped me persevere in so many situations in life and those situations have molded me into the woman I am today. Here’s a brief introduction to who I am. I am a new mommy to an adorable baby boy. A jack of all trades. I’m an artist at heart, fitness enthusiast, avid reader, and quite academic. I was born on the 9th of August in the year 1996 in Elim, a small village in the Limpopo Province. I grew up in Johannesburg and later moved to Pretoria in 2006 when I was in Grade 4, where I completed the rest of my school career. I have always been one to participate in almost every extra-mural activity since my primary school years, I played softball, hockey, and cricket. I took part in cross-country and district athletics to name a few. My love for sports made me gravitate towards what I currently do part-time, I train on a regular basis, and I am a wellness coach and a distributor for a prominent nutrition brand. A large part of what I do involves helping people correct their nutrition and learn more about the benefits of healthy eating so that they can lead a healthier lifestyle and feel great while they are at it. I have been involved in various projects that involved giving back to those in need. I have been involved with an initiative called Feed a Homeless Homie, where we made food for the homeless and distributed it at least one weekend a month, I also helped a friend of mine with a pads drive for less fortunate girls, I also give clothes to homeless shelters for women and children whenever I can and I worked with an NGO known as Keep That Gold Shining (KTG) where we tutored young kids in high schools in the townships. I am a philanthropist at heart and believe that even the smallest contribution goes a long way. As mentioned I am also an artist, mostly self-taught. I do painting on commission as well as pencil sketching. I do not have a specific style as yet but most of my work features women from different walks of life. I would like to collaborate with more artists in the future and have exhibitions. I try to read at least one book a month. I’m Toni-Leigh, born and bred in the Mother City of Cape Town. My fiancé and I, are parents to a lively 2-year old girl who arrived 5 years after losing our 3-year old son to a rare genetic disease. I love learning new things. Growing up, I was a voracious reader, reading anything and everything (even the classifieds and property ads) and with the advancement of technology over the years, I can have information at the tip of my fingers, so I’m always eager to learn new things and I’m a fast learner. I’ve always had an interest in Information Technology and was the go-to person in my office before my colleagues would go to the IT office, and now I’m looking into further studies so that I can develop my knowledge and skills. In 2005 I graduated from Varsity College with a Diploma in Travel and Tourism with aspirations of travelling worldwide in my profession. Things didn’t quite work out that way, having worked in retail and a company assisting young people to live and work in the UK. In the last decade or so, I’ve been in the tourism industry behind the scenes, working for an online holiday accommodation booking agency and more recently a company that does tours and safaris in Southern Africa. I also do freelance work remotely, such as, captioning for a speech-to-text service and social media evaluation. I am an introvert but enjoy working with and being in the company of others, while also enjoying being on my own. In the past I used to view being an introvert as a weakness because those higher up in the ranks of the companies I worked for were extroverted but in recent times I realised how much of a strength it is being an introvert as I also have a strong sense of empathy, which I believe is key in Customer Service and building interpersonal relationships with colleagues and clients. I’m passionate about customer service and going the extra mile and l love that feeling of knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s day whether big or small. People tend to describe me as hardworking, punctual, efficient, dependable and trustworthy. Covid-19 affected the tourism industry drastically, however, I still want to travel anywhere I can, just soaking up the different cultures and experiences. The last year has been both challenging and rewarding and it has made me see things in a different light and so it has been somewhat of a new beginning for me. I am motivated now more than ever to seek out new passions and adventures and to get out of my comfort zone.

UTMT Society founded in 2009 is registered under the Societies Act and the Maharashtra Public Trust Act. UTMT Society promotes beekeeping with indigenous bees like "Apis cerana indica" and Trigona to increase agricultural productivity and enhance biodiversity, incomes and livelihoods of marginal farmers in India. Four out of five foods we eat – fruits, vegetables, pulses and oilseeds – require bees for pollination. Honey bees are the most important among all pollinators. Through its work with indigenous bees, UTMT Society seeks to improve biodiversity management and ecosystem services for small holders, a cost effective way to adapt to climate change. This is particularly important for India’s small and marginal farmers, who comprise 86% of India’s farmers. UTMT Society works in tribal areas in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in India. As of 2019, we have our presence in 175+ villages spread across 14 districts.

I grew up in a small farm community in the Eastern Cape. The world I knew then was only what was surrounding me; the farm, farm lands, livestock, bushes and forest and two or three other farm dweller families. That was my reality, no big cities or big townships. I never knew anything about big rivers, oceans, lots of animals, no idea of big mountains etc. When I grew up my parents moved to the city, things changed, it was a total new world. My world got so complex and vast. It was when I started visiting beaches, zoo, animal sanctuaries, visit nature reserves and botanical gardens and travelling by boats, ships and fly in aeroplanes. I am now an avid traveller, I also go for walks in the natural environments, listen to birds singing and so on. The world has so much to offer for those who grab these opportunities. As a family man I often visit with my family to city parks, nature reserves, and lots of community projects that take care of animals and the environment. I am both an environmental and social activist, and I have spent most of my life either being involved directly in the protection of fauna and flora or training those who are involved in the same. When I travel or visit other countries I visit mostly destinations that would offer natural and aesthetic beauty to tourists. I also have a huge interest in climate change as it is, among others, influenced by human behaviour, more especially air pollution. I am also interested in religion, more especially African Traditional religion. The reason for my interest in this branch of religion is because it is mostly nature based. In other words it is religion that does not separate between humans and nature. For the adherents of this religion life is one and God manifests himself through nature and therefore taking care of nature is a religious duty. As an environmental and social activist I am involved either through making financial contribution or contributing my time in community projects of different kinds. These projects would include contributing shoes to primary school learners who have no shoes, contributing money to soup kitchens for crèches and unemployed job seekers and many other projects. I am hoping to sustain these initiatives to a level where they can help more people.
